Wireless Charger - Technical Question

Recently picked up a 2018 X3 30i for my wife. I installed a well recommended and highly rated aftermarket wireless charger for her phone.

I use the cigarette lighter power source (as recommended by charger manufacturer) and the usb connector they sent with the kit. It worked fine for a few days. The light around the cigarette lighter port would illuminate, the charger would illuminate and the phone would charge. Now, the light around the cigarette lighter does not illuminate and the charger illuminates and charges intermittently - sometimes it does and sometimes not. I have tried restarting the car, swapping power ports and USB connectors with the same result.

I installed the same charger in my 2010 335d. Mine works flawlessly and consistently.

Appreciate any experience and / or advice you would have.

Some of the BMW cigarette lighter sockets don't make a good connection with all devices. Have you measured the voltage with a voltmeter. Have you tried the center glove box power port. I would hardwire it for a cleaner setup.

Not sure how a blown fuse would allow the charger to work intermittently?

Sounds like an issue with the cigarette lighter adapter or with the charging pad itself. As someone has pointed out, a blown fuse would not cause an intermittent problem.

Why do you think it's the cig adapter or charging pad? The OP said it worked flawlessly is their other vehicle

missed the "intermittently" part

disregard my idea about the fuse. (in my case, I was lucky and the fix was simple)

Update: I plugged the charger into the USDB port rather than the cigarette lighter and the phone charges consistently. I don't know if there is enough power to do more than maintain the existing charge on the phone but I am nearly certain the cigarette lighter is the problem.
