Residual Heat - Heat at rest
I'm having some trouble getting this to work.
The manual says that heat at rest can be activated after switching ignition off, by pressing the right button of the fan control. Some indicator should show up in the climate control display. They are saying that certain conditions have to be met: warm engine, battery charged, outside temp less that 25C. I've been trying it for more that a week, temperature is around 0C outside, engine is hot, battery I supposed is charged, especially after a long drive, but nothing happens when I press that button. My car is a 2015 X3 28i, Canadian version. The feature is included in the base configuration so everyone should have it. Did anybody get this to work? If so, how did you do it and what is displayed in the climate control panel? |

Vent.
Heat at rest is described on bmw.ca as: "Uses residual engine heat to warm cabin after engine is shut off." The manual describes it like this: Residual heat The heat stored in the engine is used to heat the interior. Functional requirement ▷ Up to 15 minutes after switching off the engine. ▷ Warm engine. ▷ The battery is sufficiently charged. ▷ External temperature below 77 °F/25 °C. The availability of the function is shown on the display of the automatic climate control. Switching on 1. 2. Switch off the ignition. Press the right-hand button. The symbol appears on the automatic cli‐ mate Control Display. |

I have to go through idrive under Vehicle Settings -> Climate > "Parked Car Ventilation" in order to get this running. On 2011 and 2013. I've never been able to access via the stealth "rest" button, but I`ve placed a short cut to the idrive setting using one of my 8 memory presets.

Heat at rest is using the residual engine heat during cold weather while the car is parked. Or, is it the same function? |

Itīs not the same function, Parked Car Ventilation just blows outside air into the car vs. Residual Heat uses left over heat from the engine. Residual Heat is a great function for when stopping for a few minutes. I had a 2014 520xd as a loaner when waiting for my X3, Residual Heat worked just like describe in the manual for both cars.
