2013 X3 Bluetooth Audio Coding Help

Hi all,

I've recently picked up an early 2013 X3 with a CIC head unit and I've been trying to play Spotify from my phone through the Bluetooth audio option. Whenever I play I get no sound coming through the speakers but it is definitely playing on my phone.

I have tried;

Turning up the volume on both the car and phone.
Checked using ESys and it has 6NL coded which I believe is what is needed.
Updating the software from bmw.com/update - although it seems like quite an old release (upd01008.bin - the docs discuss the iPhone 5 as the latest).
Tried using an older phone that's on the compatibility list (original iPhone SE)

you need S6NF (Music Interface For Smartphone) as well as S6NL (Connection Bluetooth + USB Devices Incl.)

I've added 6NF and it's made no difference? When coding the option I only did the right click "code" button on the hu_cic - is that correct?

double check all coding...hard to know if something is missing/wrong without being there.

Does it play if you plug in via usb?
