Nearing my 4yr/50k svc/warranty end. What should have have done before it expires???

My 35i X3 is almost at 50K miles. The car is indicating the front brakes need to be changed as does the fluid. Before the end of my warranty and free maintenance period anything else I should try and get the dealer to do for me?

My automatic trunk struts are making a lot of noise so I will have them replace those as well.

Plugs, Coolant, Diff Fluid, Replace the Water Pump =P

I doubt they will replace the water pump unless it can be proved to be faulty (over heating?)

That was more wishful thinking on my part.

Don't know if you have the equivalent in the States, but here in Australia we have the various state-based motoring organisations who will - for a fee - carry out a pre-warranty inspection of the car. They will identify and highlight in writing any defects they feel should be covered by warranty. Always used it on all of my new cars as the warranty period approaches its end. In many cases have picked up items I was not aware of (and to be fair in a couple of other cases being a complete waste of money).

Did you say that you think that it's been running a bit hotter than normal? Have them check all stored codes, as well as seepage, or cracking around the waterpump and the termostat module. They know where the waterpump is prone to cracking - have them make a visual inspection.

Also have them check for oil leaks around the oil filter housing. There is a gasket there that is prone to leaking on the 35i. They know what to look for, as it's a common problem across every BMW with that engine.

Ask for any upcoming service to be done. Just brought mine in for the 'last' service, since new front brakes were needed. I mentioned the brake fluid was supposed to be changed next month, and the rear brakes in 1400 miles...they did it all.

They dont' mind doing the work as it just lets them put money in their pocket from the manufacturer.
