water leak / trunk button

Hello,

I discovered that there is a water leak coming from the 3rd brake light.
Upon researching, I learned that there is no separate gasket for it so I need to replace the whole brake light.

I am thinking of applying RTV silicone around the brake light to seal it

what are your guys' thoughts on this? Rust-prone? Calling for disaster later?

Also, the trunk button came off.... how do I put this back? it doesn't snap back into it.

That button does snap in. I have taken it out a few times. Try a different angle.

I put a bead of silicone around the light when it started leaking a couple of years ago, still good. Way easier than pulling the trim to get the light off.

Which silicone did you use?

Game Plan

Okay guys, I got a game plan, huge one.

1. Remove the third brake light, apply permatax ultra-black silicone (non-corrosive, used in gaskets in engine parts ) instead of the BS tape that only comes with the brake light with no replacement for it. OR i will take suggestions.

2. Just ordered two F25 tail light board so i can finally fix it. I just need to get 10mm socket and the thing to turn the socket. (is this right)

but I need some guidance in few parts
hand-pryed the plastic trims, that was pretty easy.

so I noticed the two things that are connected to the third brake light, seems like if I remove these two I can remove the brake light

on the left

on the right

how do I remove the thing on the right?
the left one looks like if I just wiggle it a bit and it will come off

and then IF when i successfully remove those two things connected to the third brake light

Do these just get pulled out easily from outside?

and what is this screw?, is it any of importance?

:cry

also, isnt there supposed to be like a clip on the side of this trunk switch?

ohhhhhh, I just realized its ON BACKWARDS!! ( ? )
maybe no, idk.... T^T
just checked thats not it. something is def missing. it wasn't like this.
whats this part even called?
