Continental ExtremeContact DWS 0-60 in 2013 BMW X3 35i M-Sport

All I have to say is WOW, and F U BMW for giving us crappy Eagle LS2 tires, that is embarrassing.

i have always swapped out my RFTs for Conti DWS. always.

much better handling, excellent grip in dry or wet, and great in snow.

put them on 20s and you've got a killer ride.

What was the tire size for the M-sports? Same 245/45/19 as mine?

Interesting but why are you thinking that the tires make such an difference in straight line acceleration?

Switching out your vehicle's heavy Run Flat tires is one of the easiest bolt-on performance upgrades for your vehicle. Just by switching to a lighter weight tire or wheel, your car will instantly feel quicker and respond better compared to stock. The rotational force to get a lighter tire to move and stop is less, therefore the engine and braking system of the car can now respond quicker. Reducing the unsprung weight by switching to a tire with less weight will also reap benefits when cornering - as the shocks and springs will have less weight to dampen during rebound and compression - keeping the car more stable on the track or highway, hope this helps you

Just out of curiosity, what is your 0-60 MPH time difference between the GY and the Conti.

I haven't officially timed it yet, but on a good day your looking at 1/10 to 2/10ths of a second shaved off. So the factory 5.5 seconds has now become 5.4 and MAYBE even 5.3 on a really good day with perfect weather and air pressure..

Those are the numbers I have been hearing on the F10 forum when switching to Conti DWS. For the average X3 owners, I bet they would not even notice the difference.

Good thing I noticed lol but definitely more noticeable in the 35i all depends how you drive, where you drive, and how much you put your car to the limit.

Most of the X3 35i owners I see around here are house wives such as my wife. They let their husband, like myself , talk them into buying the 6 cylinder engine but never accelerate the SUV to its full potential and needless to say, never take their X3 on to the race track. I do drive the X3 one a while, but with so much power on tap, even I don't really care about that 0.1 seconds.

In my opinion, there are other benefit to non-runflat tires, such as slightly better fuel economy, more tire choices, lower price and a bit smoother ride. The disadvantage would be the safety factor, I guess it is all a calculated risk and how mechanically incline you are if you have a flat. Since the X3 is my wife's, I definitely want to stay with runflat. However, in my 5 series, I might switch over to conventional tires when its time for new tires.
More and more new cars now a days do not come spare tires, just a compressor and a slime kit, some doesn't even have runflats. I guess this is the new trend now, rather we like it or not.

My post didn't go through earlier, but I said the tires are not for 0-60 times but for everything else, this video was just a sample to see how well it did compared to the stock OEMS. oh and Yes .01 seconds makes a difference you can feel.

These tires look nice. Doesn't look like they make them for 18" rims like on my 28i...crap..I don't want to buy new wheels.

Has anyone run these in the snow? I realize they won't be as great as a dedicated snow tire, but I'm wondering how they worked.

I had Conti DWS in the past and they are AMAZING in the snow. Best all season tire I have ever used in the snow. These were on my Legacy GT. I actually had the DWS tires on when I pulled a Suburban out of a snowy ditch. Was pretty cool. If I was somewhere that had snow on the road frequently I'd go with these in a heart beat.

I think that's a double edge sword though as I ended up ditching the DWS tires since they felt so fluffy and non responsive. I think the softer rubber really killed turn in feel and general handling sharpness. I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 and they are nothing short of amazing from a road feel, haven't looked back since. It is hard to tell the difference between them and my dedicated summer rubber. The only draw back is you loose quite a bit in snow performance compared to the DWS tires. But that was a trade off I was very eager to make. Having the A/S 3 on all winter allows me to really still have fun with my vehicle, not neuter it's handling, and most importantly I'm not counting down the days till my summer rubber goes back on. This is for my 335i RWD.

My wife runs Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position RFT Ultra High Performance All-Season on her 35i X3 as a replacement for the GY LS2 tires and they are pretty respectable. Not as good in the snow as the DWS tires but they are more responsive when handling on dry pavement. Still feel pretty crisp.

I got the DWS because it provides good buffer when winter season arrives. Depending on how long I have the car for, I might try out the Michelin. It will take long before I get new tires since I got 2 sets lol.
