Oil service interval changed...decreased to 11k km

Hi Guys,

I hope all is going well on your end!

I own a 2017 x3 BMW N20 and I did an oil change 2 days ago, when the oil service reset, the oil service interval shows 11,000KM, instead of 15,000KM.

Originally it always displayed 15,000KM as oil service intervals...
I'm not sure if the shop changed this, or if the iDrive system changed it by itself...

I also own a VW GTI and the shop changed the oil service intervals to 10,000km from 15,000Km, so not sure if this was done to my BMW by the shop I brought it too, I will ask the shop tomorrow once they reopen on a business day.

But as this happened to you guys? where the oil service interval decreased from 15k km to 11k km?

Let us know what the shop says. I believe a diagnostic computer is needed to change the service interval, so my guess is the shop made the change.

fyi, if you're not already aware of it, a simple 'reset' of the various CBS parameters (oil change, brakes, etc.) can be done in the car, no external computer needed - see attached.

this happened with my 335 and x3 too. if I'm not mistaken as the milage increases it changes also driving habits can effect it too

I spoke to the shop that did the oil service. I have been advised that the oil service reset caused the oil service interval to change to 11,000KM from 15,000KM.

So it will decrease from 11,000KM instead of 15,000KM - I am aware the decrease depends on the driving style and environment of the vehicle.

In the past, the engine oil service reset would always bring the next oil service interval to 15,000KM, but after 120,000KM+, it displays 11,000KM after an oil service reset.

So now It displays 'next oil service: 11,000KM' when I start the car.

I believe it's meant to do that after driving more than 120k km? My x3 is a 2017, and it's currently sitting at 124,900KM (I do engine oil service every 6-8k, I never wait till 10k/15k ever...)

Interesting … but as you said,since you don’t wait that long anyway, it’s a moot point .
