Newbie asks: Front fender side mounted turn indicators?

Hi - Just got a fully loaded 2016 X35i base model, and loving it. Even has all the drivetrain options. It's very red, which I really like, even if it's extroverted and I'm not. I buy my cars used and for years have been unable to get away from silver until now.

I noticed an awkward piece of chrome on the side of the front fenders and recalled that some European cars have turn signals there. Sure enough these are available on ebay, supposedly OEM. Is this a plug-and-play swap? Is the wiring there?

I tried searching the forum but it's hard to narrow it down to just this item.

Thanks in advance,

=Tommy=

You already have turn signals on your mirrors, why would you want another turn signal on your fender. That would look ridiculous in my opinion. FYI, my 2011 has the turn signals on the fender but no turn signal on the mirror. The change to the mirror was done with the LCI update in 2015.

Yah I suppose that makes sense. It might wind up looking like a Kenworth with too many add on lights. I just thought the dummy turn signals in the fender looked, well, kinda dumb. Maybe I could surround them with flame decals. Just kidding!

I do remain curious if it's a plug-and-play swap.

Pop it off and see if there is wiring in place behind the cover. My guess, there isn't. That means you'd have to splice/ run wires. Then there is the question of fitment. Personally not a big fan of chrome myself and if your car has the black trim all around, you could paint those block off plates to match... my 2c worth.

Good luck.

no don't pop off the cover, a wired socket is not there. You will have to open the
wheel well liner, and locate the harness to see IF the sockets are still in the
USA models.
This has been asked before. Yet no one has posted results of physical search.

I don't believe they are still included in the USA harness.
If someone has a wiring diagram for USA models, that will show yes or no.

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to mess with it.

BTW I make it a habit to search for prior threads on items of interest to me before I post. Sometimes I can't get the search options to give me a definitive reply.
