Window Tint
Are the rear/back windows of the X3 tinted?
Most of the photos I've seen posted in forums appear to have tint, yet I saw 2 on the road today that appeared to not have any tint. If they don't come with tint, approx how much does it cost to get it put on the 2 rear seats & tailgate? Is there a particular type of tint(brand?), or application method that is good and lasts for years without issue?

That looks like a perfect amount of tint. Hope mine come that way too.
Wonder why the ones I saw today were clear. The car didn't look very good with no tint.

My 28i comes with tinted rear and back windows. Front windows are tinted by the dealer for CAD$150.00.

In the UK it is illegal to tint the front side windows or windshield. For the rear side windows, adding the sunblinds, adds to the tint, but I agree the standard rear side tint is a mild tint.

Tinted rear windows aren't standard in some countries, including the UK. It's an option: Sun Protection Glass.
They aren't really that dark but they can appear darker depending on the angle and the light Mine has SPG and as you can see it can look darker in some shots - I think the bottom one has the sun blinds up as well which darken it further

It was a few months old and claying did make a difference IMO. You get all kinds of crap that you can barely see building up pretty quickly. You can certainly feel the difference by running your hand over the paintwork before and after. I recommend it but only if you have the time!! I'm thinking 1-2 times a year.

Window Tint
I went with the 3M 5% Limo Tint on the back and rear side windows.
Being Alpine White, it looks great this way. Have plans to do 35 or maybe 20% on the front windows, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm a DIY type guy and enjoy doing this stuff myself. New to the forum. Glad to see something on the web that is X3 related finally! |

Sorry for the late bump, but I was searching for this. The posts doesn't really give me a definitive answer so I decided to look it up online and share what I found. On BMW's website, the specs for the 2012 x3 is here: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...Specs/DOT.aspx
It says both models comes with Privacy Glass, which I can safely assume is tinted windows. |
