Question Resources to negotiate best price

Guys,

Given some of you all have already ordered/purchased your X3s (congrats), what are the resources you all used to get you the best prices.

Base MSRP $36,750
Alpine White $550
Black Nevada Leather $0
Fineline Siena wood trim $0
Convenience Package $1,850
Premium Package $3,450
Roof rails in Aluminum Satin $250
Park Distance Control $750
Rear-view camera $400
Destination & Handling: $875

Total MSRP as Built $44,875

Atlanta Dealer 1: 42,580 (w/o taxes/fees)
Atlanta Dealer 2: 42,999 (w/o taxes/fees)
Charlotte Dealer: 42,700 (w/o taxes/fees)

From my research, the invoice on this is: 41,290 (w/o taxes/fees)

Anyone have this build, if so, what price did you pay?

Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I used the USAA buying service (which I think some have said is Zag or something like that). Wound up with $400 over invoice, which I was pleased with. My build is different that yours above so couldn't compare specifically.

That's the site I found along the way, and wanted to use but I didn't feel comfy entering my Soc Sec there. Call me paranoid, but gotta be these days.

Not following you. The Zag site? USAA? USAA you don't need to worry about. Somebody posing as USAA, maybe, but not USAA. Need to be a member first to use their service, perhaps that's why it asked for your SSN. Didn't for me. Can call them, too, if that works better. I don't know anything about Zag itself.

When you add taxes and fees, how much are you guys actually paying on a $42,580 price tag to drive it away? Perhaps I should pose the question in a more typically English way: how much are you chaps actually paying?

I have a feeling it's a lot lot less than we are paying in the UK for the same thing (but with a diesel engine)

On a $42,000 car drive away would be about $44,200 in my state. The drive away includes title, tag, processing fee, and sales tax. Personal property taxes (which vary greatly from place to place; I expect mine to be about $1200 per year, but it depends on a lot of things) and local registration fees ($100 or less) come later and yearly.

Oh, and I appreciate the English rephrasing . . .

Yeah. Taxes here in NC are 3% plus of course tag, title and other processing fees. I forgot about the yearly prop tax fee but that will also be paid (at a later time).

I am hoping to not pay more than $500 over invoice, which would put the car at $41,790 before taxes/fees. So let's see as I still have a few weeks before I place my order.

It actually does not matter how you configure your vehicle, all that matters is, add 500$ to invoice and ask the dealer if he can agree on that price. Another trick is to talk to all the dealers in your area a week or two prior to your actual placing the order tell them that you are working with other dealers too. By this way it will give you enough time to place your order and your dealers to think they might loose the business to the competition which will force them to come down to the price you are asking, its actually better to sell a car and get 500$ than not selling one. From what I heard dealers make more money than just the 500$ that you pay over invoice.

Not too sure how the USAA program works but I assume you either have to be an active or ex-military member? Another program you could try is the Costco program which is $2000 above invoice for the 28i and $2100 for the 35i or at least that's what the dealer told me, they might be jacking up the price. I'm not sure if this amount varies by location but regardless I didn't purchase from the dealership anyways and found a better deal.

It seems as if no one around my area is willing to give discounts. Originally one dealership said at most they'll give me $500 off msrp as it's the best offer they've given. I was able to get $2000 off and ended up ordering from them. Also I envy that 3% tax in NC, it's about 10% here in WA.

Cheers old boy (OK, I'll stop with the stereotypical English now)

So $44,200 on a $42,000 MSRP car. So, I just spec'ed a xDrive28 on bmwusa and it came in at $42,315, so let's say $44,600 inc taxes etc. An xDrive20d with almost identical options in the UK is £35,380 = $56,962 including all taxes etc. Ouch!

USAA is just part of the Zag network. Just check out http://www.zag.com/ and you'll be set. I got mine X3 35i using the Zag/American Express price. Got it for $500 over invoice.

Alpine White should be included in the base price ($0 option)??

Not much pricing flexibility here in Canada yet, but I simply played the old dealer vs. dealer to get the best price. I asked each to quote me their best all-in price and the lower price would get my business. Dealer #1 offered me $800 off sticker. Dealer #2 offered me $1800 off sticker.

check out Dealer Processing fee also. I've read in other forum, many dealers in VA charged $399 for this fee. My local dealer only charged $55.

Went to zag.com as an amex cardholder. Their starting MSRP price is about $1000 more than what's listed in bmwusa.com website. So in reality you would be paying $1500 over invoice not $500?

Build your car out in the configurator first. If you just rollover the link BMWusa.co doesn't ad the $875 D&D fee.

The Amex/Zag price is true to invoice and MSRP.
