Hi,

Here's a good video on how to change the brake pads in an F25. Thought it had some good tips!

Ebrake doesnt have to be removed as it will spin back it with the correct 3 pin connector on the push back tool.

BMW used to call for ISTA to pull back the ebrake.
People then started using this manual pull back technique because they did not have ISTA.
BMW took away the ISTA technique when they supplied dealers with the 3 pin spin back connector

The problem with disconnecting the ebrake is BMW says you should always replace the sealing ring if you do

I replaced my front pads with EBC Green pads and braking is much improved over the OEM pads. I reused the wear sensor as it had not made contact with the disc yet.

I plan on doing the rear pads in the spring when I switch over the winter tires for summers. The video will help for the rears.

How does the tool work? Do you insert it into three holes and pull back the ebrake? (I have an F30, not sure if it's similar on the 3 series)

I don't think that is the correct tool as I've done the F25 rear brakes and did not remember seeing anything that mates with that tool.

The video at 17 min mark shows you what you need. If you need more info I do have a DIY as well. Some people have also mentioned to replace/reset the sensor first before doing the brake job as it seems to have better success .


Edit: I didn't remember since it has been a while. From my memory If you remove the EBH and use the torx bit T45 you turn it and then compress the caliper piston.

I assume if you use the tool shown that it is possible to turn and compress the piston without having to do it from the rear.
