Rear Gate Handle - How Remove?

I have had my 2011 CPO X3 for a week now and made the decision a rear back-up camera is a necessity. Not only is visibility limited but I cannot turn around well due to a bad back. The original owner apparently thought an upgraded sound system was more important than seeing out the rear so I have a Nav system but no back-up camera.

I am going to install a wireless camera. The camera assembly mounts using the license plate screws but I have to rout the cable into the door. The obvious place to do this is through the black sunken handle just above the license plate and between the two license plate lights. How is this handle removed?

There is no obvious hardware to remove to drop the handle from the door. I suspect it just snaps into place but want to be sure before I break something.

The camera is energized from the backup lights. It looks like it will be a simple job, once the camera is mounted, to fish the power cable a short distance through the interior of the door to one set of rear lights.
