Class 2 Trailer Tow Rating (3,500 lb max towing capacity and 350 lb max tongue weight).
Detachable 2" x 2" square receiver tube adapter that easily snaps into a mount located under the rear bumper cover. This eliminates the need to cut through the vehicle’s rear bumper cover.
Removable square receiver tube adapter is lockable to deter theft.
Discreet but accessible trailer lighting connector.
Both 4 and 7 pole trailer lighting connectors.
Fits all body variations of the X3 (including the M Sport Package and X-Line Pro aero kit).
Functionally integrated with the vehicle’s exterior lighting system and the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system.
Automatically immobilizes rear-PDC (Park Distance Control) sensors when a trailer is electrically connected.
Original BMW Accessories are warranted for the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period (4 Years/50,000 miles) when the installation occurs before the first delivery of a new vehicle. If the Original BMW Accessories installation occurs after the first delivery, the accessory will be warranted for the balance of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period or two years and unlimited mileage from the date of installation, whichever is greater.
So, next step is to get it installed.

About damn time. I'd be curious to know the price.

I assume this is a dealer accessory only? Would be nice if it was a factory option.

Based on the part "Original BMW Accessories are warranted for the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period (4 Years/50,000 miles) when the installation occurs before the first delivery of a new vehicle.", it looks like a dealer add-on, but then it may be phrased that way to cover either situation.

The BMW USA site shows the kit costs $700. I'm guessing that is without installation costs. Whoever takes the plunge first tell us how much the install was!!

This is good news. I was going to get the Execuhitch but now that this is finally out I think I will play it safe and get the official BMW hitch. Especially since it states that it integrates with park distance control and the stability control systems.

I checked the online site for the two BMW dealers near me and they have different installation prices listed. One list $1,078 installed and the other list $1,032.50

I would be curious to know the parts pricing breakdown. On my last vehicle (Acura RDX) I bought an aftermarket hitch (made by the same company who fabs the Acura hitch) and then bought the Acura wiring harness. This allowed me to save a few hundred dollars on the hitch, but get the plug-in harness made for the car rather than using a generic converter and splice job. I'd be inclined to do the same for the X3 since BMW's pricing is in ripoff territory. Keep in mind the Curt hitch is only $120-130 online.

well, to see that I will need to connect a trailer electrically. My guess it will be a view of the connection to the trailer. Also, system automatically immobilizes rear-PDC in this case. Not the case with a regular bike holder attached to the hitch.

Yes, thanks for posting the pictures. It does look very solid and I am pleased that it has the removable design, so that there is nothing sticking out when not towing.

Thanks so much for posting the photos. I am not sure what you mean by the statement above. You cannot use the camera for backing up with a trailer attached ???

Depends on the trailer. A flat trailer and you could see backing up. An enclosed one and you see nothing but the front of the trailer.
