I'll pick it up for you, and see to it that it is properly "broken in".

Congrats on the speedy delivery!! The chaps in the UK are probably pulling their hair out reading this.

UK Delivery - Joke

I ordered my X3 on the 20th May 2011- BMW have advised me that delivery is scheduled for the 8th February 2012 - is this ridiculous delivery period down to BMW or the dealership?

When I ordered my X3 35D M Sport last week, I was told delivery would be no later than late January - but I decided that if it delivered late january/early February to wait and register it for 1st March (new plates). I'm surprised you are having to wait so long!

Assuming you ordered the 20d I would say the delays are partly down to uk allocation, current back orders/demand and geography

The delays for the uk have been 5+ months from the start but dont worry as time flies

It was up at 10 months for the 20d for UK delivery which is totally ridiculous but I thought lead times were starting to come down. May be worth calling some other dealers to check their allocation. 30d definitely seems to be quicker

Ordered mine in May and will pick it up tomorrow, that makes it roughly 5 months. Maybe I should consider myself lucky?

Why does it take so long for some of you?! I'm in Phoenix, Arizona and just ordered the 2012 BMW X3 last week on the 20th and was told 3 week's wait. Called dealer today and was told that it should go into production tomorrow or early next week. He said it normally takes a week in the order process, then following week it goes into production, then another week for delivery. It's coming from SC he said. Sound about right? Thanks all.

Because they manufacture European cars with extra care. All parts are selected from the best 2% of quality control checks. All other parts go to US deliveries.

Same thing for assembly. They assemble European cars during five hours of week which they have calculated to be the most perfect in sense of quality control. (Ie. definetily not on Mondays!)

Seriously... it has something to do with "country quotas" and such.

Shipping is a HUGE factor.

Try ordering a car made in Europe... Same thing for us in NA.

My X3 will take 4-5 weeks from Production start date to arrive. Im in Canada.

I wouldn't say huge factor. From order to "production starts" it takes here over three months. Production and shipping is less than three months.

Shipping is a factor but at least from my point of view, the wait before production is the main issue.
