Anyway to install X-line?
I had my X3 (Deep See Blue) last month, but I am a bit regret now that I didn't have the SAP package. Without the x-line (windows chrome line mainly), the car looks not that superior (that's my personal view). So I wonder is there any way to install the x-line either by OEM or aftermarket?

Just contact your dealer and order the windows surroundings as spare parts. I don't have X-line aider but ordered the plastic door sills who is a part of the X-line package it was only three day's delivery time and only DIY installation.

When I asked the parts guy at my dealer he gave me the 'you can't modify your car' speech and said BMW doesn't like them to sell items for a car that weren't part of the thing they built... He wouldn't give me the part numbers or tell me how to install them. I'd really like to buy the chrome window surrounds (reference the other two posts that didn't bring a response) because they seem to 'fill' in the overly large window space built into the car. If you have luck getting the window surrounds and summarily mount them yourself, would you mind posting how it went?

If you feel like doing some research on your own you could look at http://realoem.com/bmw/ to see if you can determine the correct part numbers.

I wonder if the chrome trim is glued on top of the rubber trim or the rubber trim has to be removed in order to install the chrome trim. I'm interested in this as well as x-line wasn't part of the option here. If i want x-line, i'd have to order the 35i petrol.

If I not remember wrong I think the X3 assembly video on the BMW Spartanburg shows on of the workers install the chrome. He uses only his palm and "smash" the window surroundings on in seconds.

baoma I know what you mean about the X-line, especially with the darker colours. With the 8 month wait I have endured it gave me enough time to study and refine all these details on my order. In the UK you have to pay good money for X-Line but it makes the difference and I specc'd it. The only colour I dont think you need it is white; to answer your question about retrofit, I attach the UK accessories brochure that shows X-line pro. It does not cover the chrome window trim but it might take your eye away from the surrounds?

I found the part numbers from realoem.com, and called the part number department of the dealer. The price for those parts are crazy, for example, only the pair of the roof rail will cost $490, not including the labour cost: 700+. I gave up my thoughts on adding those shining lines then
Maybe I should try the body shop? |

Your X3 is Deep Sea Blue, I'm sure its fine with or without rails. maybe one day i'll get the crossbars for mine and put something up there. maybe. Just out of curiousity did you ever add the rails? I have to admit it was a big factor in getting me SAP - that and the sport transmission....
