imported music playing in alphabetical order
I imported a few gb of mp3's to my X3's hard drive. The import worked well - once i tried a 2nd usb stick. i managed to fry the first usb mem stick i tried, but i am 99% sure the problem was the stick because its the 2nd one of that kind Lexar 8gb that has gone bad on me this year - first one died in a pc
after a few listens I realize that nothing is in order - then as i scroll thru I realize its alphabetized the songs on the CD instead of going on the track #. The MP3's are properly tagged w/the track # in both the file name and the ID3 tag. they play correctly on various pc players as well as my ipod and droid phone. They even play in the correct order in my X3 when I play on the ipod via USB connection. When I play from the imported collection on the hard drive only does it go in alphabetic order. is there a setting i'm missing here? obviously this isn't an issue when its set to shuffle, but its quite annoying when trying to listen to a full length live concert recording that shuffle doesn't work so well for. needs to be in correct order. has anyone seen this? know a fix or is it a bug?

Known.
Annoying. I'm told playlists get past this if you first set them up on iTunes. I dont bother - I just set up a fast button on the dash to randomise the tracks, and play by album or artist... I'd need to set up too many playlists. Maybe one day the boffins in the software development house will add one or two simple options for us such as playing them in the orginal track order (given the file names include it and its in the meta data of each track)

ipod works great - did freeze up once but thats probably my ipod and its age/abuse factor...
few weeks before I picked up the X3, i was in an GM rental car on a vacation - ipod worked well in that too - both cars put the BMW or GM icon on the ipod screen - if it does that its fully supported.

I got my iPod back in '04 for the sole purpose of using it when I got my '04 E46, and had the 1st generation of the BMW/iPod interface...I really hope my iPod works with X3.

It's a known bug unfortunately. The Workaround is renaming your collection before importing so that song titles are prefixed 01, 02 etc (I did this en masse and it works). I also think if you search by folder rather than by album or artist, the file name is used rather than the song name which is already 01, 02 so the album is played in the correct order.

is this known bug just limited to music thats been imported to the X3 hard drive? What happens if i play music from a hard drive or USB stick plugged directly into the center console USB? I may do some testing over the weekend... I know my ipod classic plays in the correct order - i was thinking long term of getting a 80 or 100gb SSD and putting it in the console, but if its not going to play in order then i will just continue to use the ipod - perhaps get a new one at some point.

I test drove the X3 today, I took my 7yr old iPod classic to make sure that the idrive would recognize it, and IT WORKED!!!!
The 2nd Gen. iPod works fine. Less the art work of course.
