Apple CarPlay display not coming up

Whenever I start my car, my phone automatically connects through Apple CarPlay. I've been having issues with the CarPlay automatically coming up on the iDrive screen. It is connected because the music from my iPhone starts autoplaying, but I am just on the iDrive main menu. Also on the main menu, whenever I scroll to Apple CarPlay and click it. Nothing happens. I always have to click options and then back in order for the CarPlay screen to finally come up. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Just because your phone's music is playing, doesn't mean that CarPlay is connected. Music could be playing through a Bluetooth connection rather than CarPlay's wireless connection. To be sure you have a CarPlay connection, from iDrive's Home screen, move the iDrive controller forward. A drop-down menu should appear at the top of the iDrive's central screen. Use the controller to scroll (probably to the left) to look for a CarPlay menu item and click on it. If there is no CarPlay menu item, CarPlay is not connected.

Which software version are you on? I have this problem since mine was updated to "S" for the backup camera recall.

For me, I have to switch the front view camera on and then back off for CarPlay to show

I did check and it is connected to CarPlay. I click on the CarPlay menu item and it doesn't come up. I have to click 'OPTIONS' and then 'BACK' for the CarPlay screen to come up.

I'm not sure how to check the software version. I've searched online and all of them say to go to the Navigation settings, but I'm currently in a different country driving a US Spec car so Navigation was not activated while I'm here.
