I presume there is no 'open source' software to generate the FSC code for free.
Searching the net- there seems to be a number of threads about CIC FSC codes- but they seem to imply that you need to a download a file from the car via coding in order to generate the FSC code- but I could be wrong!

Is the FSC code used just for Nav, or are there separate codes to unlock 'feature' in the I-drive?

I'm not sure where the code generator software comes from. I know there are other features that are enabled via FSC codes by the dealers though not sure what exactly. The only information that I have provided to obtain an FSC code is the last 7 digits of my VIN - no need for files of any kind.

It turned out I had my sticks in my laptop bag so I've just had a play in my car with USB stick 1; with the ignition on (engine stopped) and the NAV showing the usual map display the update message eventually appeared after I inserted it in the glovebox port a couple of times - nothing happened the first time I inserted it even after 4 minutes though when I removed it and re-inserted it the message appeared after 10-15 seconds! It seems to be very hit-and-miss though don't be worried about removing / re-inserting it whilst the NAV is running.

I think the FSC code you have will work either way as it's 'tied' to your VIN number not specifically to any set of files downloaded or otherwise. I had my NAV updated by my dealer from v2012 to v2013-2 (using a warranty BMW (genuine!) FSC code) I subsequently updated to v2014-1 a day or two later without having to use the FSC code that I bought from our friends in Poland! I was never prompted for the FSC code during the update to v2014-1. I can only assume that the perpetual upgrade FSC code will allow future updates as you mentioned earlier.
Well I have tried both with sticks and DVD but no luck - absolutely no reaction.
This was with the files you used and with my original files.
All the files downloaded and unzipped and are identical to the ones above.
The BMW technician claims that both stick and DVD should work but it seems that sticks are the usual way.
I am now at a dead end so its back to the BMW guy who has been helpful, he offered to check it out for me. ;-)

If you get really stuck I could lend you my set to try...

Hi
Thanks for your offer, I appreciate it. If you could send them across to me that would certainly prove whether I have an issue with my system or not. It would then give me some ammunition with BMW!
If you want to keep personal details off the forum please send a private mail and I will forward my address.

Hi, I am pleased to say that the issue is resolved, so I do not need the loan of your USB sticks, but your offer was very much appreciated.
As a last resort today I decided to see what would happen if I put USB1 (with the files on that you kindly posted) in to the glove box socket before turning on the ignition, despite all comments from various posts stating that the satnav should be allowed to have started before putting in the USB stick.
I was pleasantly surprised when, after the satnav system had booted up, I was advised that a later version was available and to enter my activation code. I entered the one I had previously purchased and the upgrade was carried out without any issues ;-)).
One very relieved OAP!!
Thanks again for your offer, comments and suggestions.
An excellent advert for this Forum.

That's great news - glad you're sorted

The USB ports are a bit temperamental to say the least!

Finally got around to getting my front seat squeak and Nav Traffic Glitch sorted.
The local dealer upgraded the Nav to the latest version FOC
They needed to keep it overnight, because they only started looking at the problem in the afternoon Day 1, and then needed to order the code and upgrade the software which happened Day 2.

See picture...

Bought my car second hand a few weeks ago and noticed the RTTI was on the wrong side.

The car is now having the firmware upgrade done under warranty.

I wait to see which maps they put on as I had 2013 anyway and the tech bulletin describes the change as needing 2013-2

They do not touch the map version even if they upgrade the firmware. Unless of course BMW are not bothering about making money anymore. I have had mine upgraded twice by our friendly BMW Tech.

If you want to upgrade your map version to Europe NBT 2015-2, you will have to purchase this later map and a new FSC code to install it. The good news is that I was shown the revised pricing the other day and it is cheaper.

It is still not as cheap as the UK web site that I discuss on this other thread...

The car is still there. It died completely after 5 1/2 hours of trying. So let's see what today brings. I have to say that Snows customer service has been brilliant. Regular updates and a last minute loan car when mine wasn't ready.

The senior tech let me read the update. For the correction to the RTTI they need to have 2013-2 as a minimum. My version was earlier than that so they're reloading the full set.

Thanks. Please let us know what the firmware version is and to what part of the system (the component) it is applied to.

Better still, when you have it back, how about a picture of iDrive screen showing the versions that are installed? I will post mine as it has been updated several times, but not sure whether I have the very latest. What I do know is that that there are software releases twice a year. Not just for the X3 but in general to keep up with the latest bluetooth for phones.

Be advised, BMW are not renowned for keeping the documentation up to date especially when it comes to mobile phones. I have the Samsung S5 with Vodafone and the latest software only mentions the Samsung S4, when I know it [S5] is covered when you query the phones that are compatible.

EDITED...YOU SAID AND I QUOTE. Sorry didn't mean to shout, just wanted to make sure you noticed, but are you saying all the time or occasionally?

Yes, will update on everything they've done with version numbers.

The info in your other post was very useful. I'm hoping that the fsc code they use will be a lifetime one.

Missed the second bit.

The RTTI is only showing on the wrong side when there's traffic

You mean Yellow colour for slow traffic and Red colour for stationary traffic but showing on the opposite side to where the problem is.

They [BMW UK] do not do lifetime codes, so if the fix to your problem entails your car being updated to the minimum standard of NBT 2013-2 (that was what my car had on it when purchased), then I can see them putting that on free of charge to comply with the guarantee. You never know, you might get a later version NBT 2015-2 free of charge. Nice if you do.

Well, all finished on Friday.

The update is to the same as previously posted ending 23 with 2013-2 maps (CIC).

I'll report on whether it's worked when I hit some traffic

OK. I am surprised you have the Road Map Europe Premium 2013 and not the NBT version. Perhaps you have the Business Nav and not the Pro Media Nav. When was your car built?

It's one of the last built with CIC. When I bought it the build date suggested it would be NBT, but no. It's definitely pro-nav.

Thanks for your reply I'll try that.

It is a great shame we do not have the exact same system. I have the Europe NBT 2015-2 on a 32GB USB II and could have lent it to you for a complete upgrade.

Given that you are just down the road from me, you could have driven up to me or me down to you and that would have been job done.

Got your reply!
