burnouts skidpad and all that
just wondering if anyone has taken their car to a skidpad or slalom or really driven it hard. I have tried doing a burnout, not slap shifting or anything just standing on it from a stop sign and it doesnt burn rubber. I have pushed it in some curves and it always responds well, but since its new I dont want to push it too hard. I have seen yoyu tube vids of x3's on the skidpad and it looks like it is possible to loose it when wet. just wondering whether intentional or not if anyone has managed a screamin burn out or lost it in a tight curve.

you got AWD... how you think you'll do a burnout?
I Autocross mine, I got a video in the pictures/video forum. With proper driving, it can easily keep up with many car's on a track. A couple times my back end has come out but the xdrive makes it easy to maintain control.

We were able to run an X3 pretty hard, about 10 hot laps, at the BMW center in SC. It handles surprisingly well. You can feel the higher center of gravity but the chassis is very balanced and maintains composure surprisingly well. You can definitely induce an oversteer situation when the roads are wet and you turn OFF traction control. It's one of my guilty pleasure. When the pavement is wet, hit a turn in 2nd gear, floor it, and be prepared to counter steer. Thing is, even with traction control off it won't let the back end come entirely around. It will step out maybe 15 degrees then it get's pulled back in.
As far as laying some rubber from a stop... it's nearly impossible, even with traction control off. I've power braked from a stop and was only able to get the wheels to chirp. You'll never get any of that glorious tire smoke you see in the high powered RWD vehicles. I had a MB C63 to play around with a few months back and that thing is pure insanity. You just breath on the go pedal and the rear tires want to shred themselves. Smiles for miles in that beast! |

The only car I knew of that could spin 4 wheels was the 911 Turbo and even then you could only get them to kind of slip-stick for 20 feet or so. That was with a manual gearbox and pounding on it hard.
