How does the X3 recognize new TPMS?

If I get a winter set of wheels/tires/TPMS what do you have to do for the X3 to recognize the new TPMS sensors?

I put on a set of winters last year, and I just reset the tpms in idrive in it recognized the new tpms sensors automatically.

Yes, do a TPMS reset and all should be fine. IIRC, the TPMS modules are serial numbered.

This was the way it worked for me when I got my winter tire/wheel set from the Tire Rack for my old E90.

Hey that's great. Thanks. I was thinking about going without TPMS but may get some aftermarket ones. The dealer prices are about $400 including valve stems. That's alot of money. i saw them for around $250.

I bought my winter wheels and tires from Tire Rack, and had them provide and install the TPMS. I paid $225 - $250 for the TPMS.

what type of wheels and tires did you buy from Tire Rack? And how much was the total package? I looked at Tire Rack and saw an abundance of wheels but instead may get a set of 307 18" BMW wheels. The package that BMW has is around $2800 for those wheels and Pirelli RFT winter tires but that's more than I want to spend. I suspect the final cost will be upwards of $2K though. Thanks.

Pirelli Sottozero Winter Serie II RFT, 18" Elbrus Wheels, TPMS, Center Caps, Valves, Totes, Shipping, $2041 all in, including centering rings and lugbolts.

If I could have gotten a set of 307s or 308s for the same price I would have gone with the BMW package.

Mexico, as in perhaps every country except the US, may use indirect TPMS. Indirect TPMS measures individual wheel rotation speed. Direct TPMS measures tire pressure.

I bought my set at tirerack as will with the tpms sensors. The valves and tpms sensors were only $200. I skipped the RFT for my winter set and went with 245/50R-18 Bridgestone Blizzak and 18x7.5 Breyton Race GTS wheels. the whole package with road hazard warrenty cost me $2282

Did you get the Elbrus 102 or 106? Both fairly inexpensive wheels. I saw those last week while I was looking at Tire Rack. Did you look at the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 ZP RFT's also? How did you like the Pirelli's? I plan on driving in snowstorms and in the mountains in UT and other western locations.

I have the 106s, but both models are being discontinued by TR. I don't believe that the Michelins were available when I bought the Pirellis.

The Pirellis don't appear to have a very agressive winter tread. They worked out fine for me though. I my replace them for this winter. My indy BMW mechanic says that while there is still plenty of tread on them, they're worn to the point that they're only as good as all-season tires now. I may get a second opinion from my non-BMW mechanic.

Those wheels remind me of the CSL wheels from Mod Bargains. They are about 900 for the set of 4. it looks like the four TPMS sensors are less than 100 which is the lowest price I've seen. I'd like to go non-RFT but I hate to have a spare to take up space in the rear on long trips.

The same concern, plus the weight, is the only thing that's keeping me out of a set of Blizzaks.

I had the same concern about the non run flats but I decided to skip the spare and get an emergency tire repair kit and portable compressor. It fits under the cover in the trunk and doesn't take up any space. Worst case scenario, the repair kit fails and I get my X3 towed to a tire shop where non RFT are much easier to find and get replaced. I haven't had a flat tire in over 15 years so for me I decided to take the risk. There are a much better selection of winter tires if you skip run flats but I can definitely understand the hesitation of running without a spare.

We had a lot of snow last winter and the blizzak's performed excellent.
