Stupid Dealership

My car went in the shop yesterday with differential issues. It's under warranty, only 31k miles on it. Got a phone call today confirming it was the front dif and it needs to be replaced but there might be warranty issues... Why?
"Because the tires are a half inch bigger than the OE ones." No they're not, the originals were 245/45 R19 (ls2s) and the new ones are also 245/45 R19 (P Zeros though)
I don't know where they came up with that one, and even if the tires were a different size as long as all 4 were the same that could not possibly effect the front dif. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the worst excuse (and wrong still) I've heard for having possible warranty issues.

Is your vehicle an M sport staggered wheel setup or standard square setup? The door sticker states what original size come on the vehicle. So if it shows on the door sticker that the fronts are 245/45 and rear are 275/40 then they can try to say you are at fault . Why because a 245/45 in the rear is stretched on the wider 10" wheel. BUT if you have all four 9" wheels using a 245 then you should be in the clear. The 245 tire size is approx 9.65" and the side wall /45 is 4.34". The rolling revolutions per mile are 729. So if all tires are the same and wheel width are the same then they are feeding you a crock pot full of s h i t.

I don`t see no problem:
-I have staggered 20" P Zeros - as per delivery.

Obviously X3/X4 can take both square and staggered - at least when using approved sizes.

Obviously BMW install P Zeros as 20" - perhaps not as 19", but even if P Zero:s are slightly bigger than your ls2s, it will not affect diffs.

It's a square setup. 245/45 on 19" 369M (I think that's the wheel) wheels all around. I didn't know X3s came staggered

Nah. They called a little while ago, said they were wrong and they thought I originally had a staggered setup. so they are warranty-ing it. Thanks though!

I see that you got this sorted out, but it is indeed true that there is variance amongst manufacturers in identically 'sized' tires.
I found this out when selecting tires for an E31.
The 285/35-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports fit just fine on the rears, whereas the Pirellis in the exact same 285/35-18 'flavor' did not - a bit too wide for adequate clearance.
Go figure . . .
