Rust?!
Surely not.
Pictures show: 1) Underneath rear nearside light cluster 2) Top of bonnet, nearside. Not dead bugs either. I can't scratch these off. Car is 3 days old, 100 miles and had been Seal & Protect treated at the distribution centre in Thorne. Thoughts?

Look like iron deposits to me. Auto Finesse Iron Out will remove those or a clay bar might do the trick as well. Here is a link to the iron out:

My thoughts would be to have it looked at by BMW before you try any DIY solutions ....... or at least give them the chance of looking ..... a pain for you as the dealership is so far away ...... I'll PM you a contact as your man is off at the moment

Others have posted up similar issues, seems that they get iron bits stuck to the paint form the train ride that then rust and just need cleaned off. They may have sealed it, but doesn't look like they cleaned it well before they sealed - would need to have a clay bar used before the sealer to get all the deposits off the paint. Iron X or similar will remove it or a clay bar, but either may remove the sealer, so you may want to got back and have them clean it all and re-seal to do it correctly.

I have the rust marks on my AW car as well.
It appears on the plastic bumper covers too so it's obviously contaminants in the paint oxidizing. A local detailing shop advised that this issue is very common on white cars from ALL manufacturers.

Hi,
I thought this might be of interest to you! I would still take it back first though and show BMW agent what a poor job they have done in pdi. etc. Good luck in getting it sorted! Mac. |

Cheers for all the replies - I figured it wasn't the body rusting as I assume the patch below the rear light cluster is plastic rather than metal.
Is it likely that I can't scratch these things off because they have waxed and polished over the top (seal & protect) and if so are they going to have to strip it and reapply it properly? Cheers!

That is one downside of having a white car.
Claying the Finnish should take it out

Those should be clayed rather than taking an abrasive to the paint. A very mild finishing polish after claying to remove any marring is all that would be needed.

The problem is that these bits of fallout are trapped under the hard wax that BMW applied so they feel totally smooth to run your finger over. They need to remove the later of protectant in order to remove the fallout and then re-apply the seal and protect stuff.

If your spots are locked under sealant that BMW applied that yours should be the same. If they have settled after you got the car then you should be able to remove them yourself and it's not a warranty issue...
