2012 BMW X3 xdrive28i
Hoping for some suggestions, knowledge, etc
I have a 2012 BMW X3 xdrive28i and I can connect just fine to bluetooth phone. I recently drove an 2013 X5 and was able to connect both bluetooth phone and audio. I cannot seem to find the audio option on my X3 so after some research looks like I need to upgrade something... Any ideas on what needs the upgrade? Estimate on cost? Thanks in advance from a newbie! Cheers, Brad |

You need to make sure Bluetooth audio is enabled on your device. Go to CD/Multimedia > Bluetooth > Highlight your phone and click the Option button (bottom right under the iDrive wheel). Select Configure Phone from the Options panel on the right and check the audio option. You can also check in Options to see if Bluetooth audio is disabled for all devices under Configure Bluetooth. Like someone mentioned, hooking up a USB cable will disable bluetooth audio for that device and it needs to be manually re-enabled after that. Sound quality over Bluetooth is noticeably better than via USB, for some reason, in our X3s.

it also depends on the software of your BMW. Our 2011 X3 35i didn't have that function. We were able to use bluetooth for phone calls, but not for audio. We now have a 2013 X3 and made sure that feature was with the car when we bought it. =) You might be able to get that added to your car since I think its a software thing.

my gf x3 '14 was in for minor rattle on driver window and bubble on front grille chrome part.
she has a x5 '13 , we were able to bluetooth phone for audio and "media" allow to control pandora with x5 controls no need to touch the phone. when i switch back to my x3, i was only able/given the choice to connect audio only. |

for 2012 model year there was a $650 mandatory option called "BMW Assist with Enhanced Bluetooth and office capabilities"...this is in addition to the standard bluetooth/USB functionality. This option was free with tech pkg and it's required play Bluetooth audio.
Default firmware shipped with the car didn't play BT audio from my iPhone 4S but worked with my Xperia Arc. After upgrading the firmware, things were resolved. |
