Bluetooth problem this time
I have the 2011 X3 and the warranty is expired.
The problems are surfacing one by one. First it was the rear lights, now the bluetooth has suddenly stopped working. We have been pairing our Samsung Note 4 phones to the bluetooth for over a year. Earlier this week, the bluetooth won't connect to the phones. There was no software update done to the phones and I don't think it's a phone issue. I tried to manually connect them, but once I pick the Bluetooth (telephone) option on iDrive, it will show "Please wait" and it loops and loops and won't move on to any other screen. I leave it on for 10min or so and it still stays in the same screen. I turned the car off overnight and tried again on the next day and it is still the same. Is there any way to reset the bluetooth? |

i downloaded the update file on a usb flash, plugged it in the usb drive, and when i picked the update software option in the menu, it showed a blank screen. I also noticed that when I plugged in the usb flash, the light of the usb flash flashed once and didn't stay on. I tested it with my ipod, plugged it in but the ipod didn't show it is being charged. I tired to play my ipod music, but idrive showed the external device is not connected. I think these problems, including the Bluetooth problem, are related. |

Further research on the other bmw forums and they pointed this to a MULF module failure. I will take the car to a local garage to replace the tail lights in a couple of weeks, will ask them to check the MULF module (if they know anything about it). |

I have decided to trade in the X3 for another vehicle. When I was driving the X3 to the dealership, the Bluetooth suddenly worked! The dealership didn't check the Bluetooth functionality when they did the initial evaluation of the car but I was crossing my fingers. Good that it worked all of a sudden. Otherwise they will probably reduce a grand or two from the trade-in.
