Moving shifter to left vs. buttons on left of shifter

Manual doesn't seem to explain this much. If I slide the shifter to the left only I'm in Drive Sport mode. As far as I can tell, this only seems to affect the shift points. So is this the same as going from Normal to Sport and configure sport mode with Drivetrain only? Both ways you can enable manual shifting by using the paddle shifters.

You are correct, sliding the shifter left simply changes the rpm shift points. However, this is not the same thing as having "drivetrain enabled," drivetrain not only changes the shift points but also increases throttle response. You can test this by having the shifter in left position then turn on sport mode, you'll notice that the rpm stays the same but you'll suddenly accelerate.

Without the shifter in left position manual shifting is only temporary, the car will revert back to auto after a few seconds.

Moving the shifter to the left does change shift points but also changes throttle response. Switching to Drivetrain Sport will do this with even greater effect, but shift timing will also be slightly quicker and more abrupt as a result.

And the car stays in gear when shifting manually when shifter is to the left.

Also, in sport mode steering becomes stiffer and therefore more responsive even you opt 'drivetrain only'. DS mode doesn't do that.

Been out of touch lately and just reading these. Thanks for the replies! I guess sliding the shifter to the left in DS mode is kind of like SPORT 'lite'.
