2011 X3 - From Performance Center

I'm considering a used 2011 X-3 3.5XI. It came out of the Performance Center in South Carolina. It has low miles and is close to how I would build one new. The price is alot less than sticker but nothing to write home about...Pretty much Kelly Blue Book.

The internet is full of bad feedback on battery and front end problems on the 2011 x3. Any one here experience this or other problems with theirs?

I'm also concerned about the performance center usage. I'm sure it was driven hard around the track and over the obstacle courses. Is this concern warranted?

Final concern is the model year. I think this was the first year for the 2nd generation X-3. I know that BMW often finishes R&D in the first year of production. Any problems with the 2011's that have since been resolved?

After doing the Performance Center delivery and driving one of the PCD X3s I'd say look elsewhere. These vehicles are 'abused' in a way that you couldn't do on normal public roads. They have seen daily hot laps from bad drivers which has to take it's toll. I'm sure they have a fantastic garage with top notch mechanics looking after the fleet but I'd still be skeptical.

Maybe if it was a good amount below KBB then maybe, and regardless I'd definitely ask for a 100k mile warranty.

We were one of the first 2011 X3 owners in Ohio and to date we have not had any issues at all. Haven't even seen a single check engine light. We put around 21k miles on it the first year of ownership. I think at this point, there are well established fixes for most issues that popped up with the early builds. We have only had one TSB that related to throttle input and lag when moving from a start. Seem to have mostly fixed the problem.

Having personally "abused" an X3 at the PC, I really don't think there's anything to worry about. During my delivery, we all drove X5s on the offroad portion. The X3s all stayed on pavement. Sure, it's hard on tires and brakes, but I'm assuming both have been replaced.

That said, I don't think it is worth top dollar unless it comes with a CPO style warranty, which I don't think they will do.

I have owned my 2011 X3 M-sport since July of 2011 and No issues so far except I like it more every day. BMWs are built to be driven and I am sure these were well maintained after being driven. That said, I would ask for the extended warranty just for peace of mind. Good luck and keep us posted
