Upgrade to Premium Stereo Worth It?

We are looking into the purchase of a 2013 X3. The stock stereo looks good on paper and sounds decent in person. Have not yet listened to the upgrade. While sound/music is so very subjective, we want to pose the question anyway.

Thanks.

In my case, I spend a lot of time listening to music so the upgrade to me is worthwhile. It's not the best audio system but for an OEM system, the sound stage is quite decent.

We went with the base package and at first was very disappointed - however after giving it some running it has really picked up and now we are much happier, - so be aware listening to it in a new demo is not a good idea, find a user with one that has done a few 1000 miles!

As in all normal speakers, it needs some break-in playing time. To quickly break it in, you need to play it loud for 24 hours. That will be hard to do so it will take longer before the speakers open up.

My advise to anyone is, if you can't hear the difference why pay more for something you can't appreciate? You did say the system sounded decent to your ears.

I opted for the base system. If the X3 had better noise isolation, I would have paid for the upgrade. I'm listening with a good source (wma lossless) and the system is adequate for casual listening. How serious are you about the sound in your car?

the upgrade is OK..better than base system. But..i'm seriously considering replacing all speakers and adding a real sub with amplification. As with all cars i've owned, the OEM systems are pretty much average..at best

Nope. I have the premium sound and, IMHO, the base sound will be fine. Both my E92 335 and my E92 M3 have the base sound. It is hardly noticeable. Maybe it is just me. I was planning to build one w/o the sound premium but decided on getting the one on the lot w/ the M-Sports package. There is no buyer's remourse on the M package but I cannot say the same with the premium sound. On a side note, I have the B&W 704 Matrix speakers at home.

Good to know.
I'd rather spend the $1k savings and tweak my audiophile system at home.
B&W 704 are beautiful, I'm Bowers fan but I run Martin Logans at home
