UK Delivery Times

Having been through the agony of the long wait for a X3 here in the UK, I thought it would be good to start a thread giving some details on delivery times. If others can update the thread with their experiences, it may help those still waiting for their order to understand the process.

My experience was:

• 8th March 2013: X3 30d ordered.

• 19th April 2013: It went into production. (the VIN number was released on this date).

• 23rd April: It left the plant in Spartanburg.

• 27th April 2013: It sailed from Charleston S.C.

• 8th May 2013: The boat arrived in Germany.

• The boat then calls in at Southampton on its return journey to Charleston, this is normally 2 to 3 days after arriving in Germany.

• 14 May 2013: I was told the car had cleared UK customs and was given a Registration number.

• 23rd My 2013: I picked the car up at the dealership in Norwich.

You may notice that the biggest delay is waiting for the production to start (which is understandable) . The second biggest delay is when BMW UK take over – not very slick.

Finally – It is worth the wait – hang in there!

Be thankful, the wait used to be a lot longer.

Long wait? You've had it easy. Eight months is a long wait

PS Nice looking car.

Quicker than mine.

Order finalized 9th March.

Radio silence from the dealer regarding progress until this week. It's built but still waiting to get on a boat. It turns out it was only built on the 16th May.

Next ship departs next week so I am guessing that I'm looking at beginning of July at this rate. Don't quite understand how there can be such a difference given one days difference.

I ordered mine 16 March. It was built 16 April and I took delivery last Friday, 24 May.
Fairly standard spec: 2.0 diesel, auto transmission, electric towbar ("trailer coupling" 3AC), and folding mirrors (430). Vermillion Red. Not been far yet, and off to the Caribbean on Wednesday, but enjoying it so far. Replaces an Audi A4 Avant (estate/wagon).

Don't know if the toys I've chosen have caused part of the problem. Added VDC, Professional speakers and media as well as the visibility package.

The dealership is very small so I am wondering if they have ordered from scratch opposed to modifying an order that is already on the way for group stock.

Ordered mine mid march, it was built on April 19th, arrived in the UK on May 20th and is due to be delivered Friday (May 31st)

That's a 35d M with all the options ticked.

I think the cars are built to order, however it's possible some dealers may have pre-ordered cars then change the spec to suit the customer???? This would allow them to get a production slot earlier. Just an idea.

@ Stumblingtrout and Ontheballcity I see that you are both in East Anglia. Did you use the Norwich dealership or Kings Lynn?

This is what happened with me. I was able to leapfrog onto an existing build slot at the dealer.... cut my delivery time by 1-2 months

Neither. I bought my 530d through Elms in Cambourne, but i've ordered the X3 from BMW directly as we have a purchasing scheme through work.
