Poll X3 battery issue by year

With all the discussion about cold weather electrical problems on the F25, I thought it might be interesting to look at the problem by year. Check out the poll. This should only apply to those living in areas were you commonly get winter temps below 20 degrees F for extended periods. Maybe Chicago or further north.

We have never seen this on our 2011 as an example. I think it should only apply to electrical error messages which have been discussed.

I got issues with my 2011 35i

Low battery warnings in very cold temps. I thought it was a bug, so I drove the car normally for a couple of days... until I was unable to start the car on a cold morning.

Got boosted by another car, bought a battery tender, and since then I plug the car when it gets under -20C or when I get the "low battery" message.

I did also had a PCM failure once, also in very cold temps. Got changed for a new unit, no problems since the replacement (about 2 years ago).

no problems with my 2011 35i, but it is parked in a garage every night, so despite this winter has been the coldest in many years, my X3 doesn't sleep out in the cold.

I don't think you'll find enough votes here to differentiate between years - especially since you left out one important aspect: instead of separating by year I would try to find 'Garaged vs 'Not Garaged (at least significant part of the day)' although that does feel a little bit like one of those studies from the 70's where you are trying to find out if the divorce rate is higher in high-rise low income quarters..

That may be true, but including that and many other things make it a very complex poll. I assumed that garaged vs non-garaged would be immaterial unless it was a heated garage and I figured most people would figure that out. I know my garage only is maybe five degrees warmer than outside if it is zero F outside. That delta gets smaller every day the extreme cold hangs on, which this year has been some very long times.

No warnings, car is MY2012, production month 12/2011. Finland here. This winter quite mild, but the previous winter was pretty cold with months of -20 Celsius and half a meter of snow.

I daily drive only to work: 9km per direction.

At home I use engine electric plug-in pre-heater, but no charger. (www.defa.com)

Occassionally I drive longer trip to parents', 400km total. About every other month.

I had a few warnings last year when the temps were -20 F but my X3 always started. Once this year temp was -22 F and I stopped at the store and got the warning when I turned of the X3. I ran inside for about 10 minutes, when I came back out the X3 wouldn't start. I had to get a jump start.

I wish we could get the DEFA heaters in North America, but all I can locate is those for the rest of the world that use 230V. Anyone seen them in NA?
