I had assumed that coasting mode ( EcoPro coasting driving condition ) was enabled by default in my 2015 xline 2.0d but I've never managed to get it working. The manual states that it is available (page 191 and 194) but I can't get it to work and was beginning to think I either had a fault or BMW had disabled it. To get the car to disconnect engine and gearbox for coasting you must:
1. Be in EcoPro mode 2. Not have turned DSC off 3. Be within the "dynamic boundary range" 30 to 100 mph and not on a steep slope 4. Not be using cruise control 5. Not be towing 6. Have a battery charge neither too high or too low ( ) 7. Be in standard D drive 8. Have automatic gearbox 9. Be at normal operating temperature for engine I have tried to get the X3 to coast on a flat motorway at around 70mph but have never seen it activated. Also the coasting setting does not appear in my setting screen for EcoPro. I don't have the sport autobox, just the ordinary auto. Can you let me know which coding value have to be changed to enable this? Thanks Last edited by zalagan; 11-23-2015 at 04:20 PM.. |

So why have BMW disabled this? They must have made a last minute change to the LCI spec as it's described in the manuals. Factory coding error? Unlikely and would have been corrected as soon as spotted. So that leaves coasting being disabled as a saftey thing. Question is, was that because of potential litigation for rare accidents or is there a more serious risk when an X3 coasts and the engine is disconnected from the transmission?
I paid for Efficient dynamics and expect all the F25 LCI features to work as advertised. Think I'll raise a warranty item before coding and relying on this. Thanks for posting the coding details. |

Hello,
I am in the same situation with you, I've coded the necessary codes, even got the option "coasting" under ECO PRO settings, but my revs don't go idle. What am I missing? What happened in your case? Btw, I have an F20, June 2013 made 118i with M-Sport Package, ZF8 automatic transmission. Thanks in advance. |

I believe it's market specific and it is not enabled in the UK

My car is a 09/2014 lci model and has the coasting function. There is one road (the slip road of the A40 into Paddington basin) where i see the blue pedal icon come up. Has to be in eco mode though.

The car knows there is a speed limit reduction ahead and in Eco pro mode gives you a hint ( blue pedal) to back off the gas As an aside it pisses me off that the nav system knows the speed limits but does not show it Wife's c class showed speed limits in the nav display

From what I have seen from pictures some time ago of the nav screen in the US, the speed limits are displayed, but this information is/was picked up by a small onboard camera. Perhaps this is all to do with limiting the speed in other markets and not UK. Last edited by Peter_R; 03-09-2016 at 09:31 AM.. Reason: typing error |

1. I have just spoken to my BMW Tech friend who is getting me more information because there is an option that might/can be retrofitted to my car. Some things happen that are very subtle and you would need to drive 2 differing software standard cars for several weeks to notice it. Even then you might not. 2. So the Nav System in cars has the speed limits embedded, but they do not show unless you have specified the appropriate option on build, which means it can be shown in the instrument display if you cycle through it on the stork. It is not an option on my car but it might be able to be retrofitted. Also would be shown in HUD. 3. If you have the speed limit display option the High Beam Assist (HBA) camera is used to pick up the additional information. This is primarily to over-ride say a 60 mph limit shown by the NAV where you come upon a temporary speed limit of say 30 mph. This limit would apply to the speed limiter and additionally would be shown in the display, see Paragraph 1 above. 4. There are other subtle changes and similar to your statement where the car does not automatically change up a gear when coming to a roundabout, but, keeps the car in the lower gear until you past it. Naturally this information has to come from the Navigation Map. Quote:
I know we have gone off topic here, but my BMW Tech friend has just rung me back and the relevant options for my car to show the display are: 8TH - Speed limit info 5AS - Driving Assistant 5AT - Driving Assistant Plus He advise I cannot upgrade but the system does not show any hardware required to be fitted, and originally thought that coding would fix, but he seems to think that a subtle but slightly different camera to the HBA is used with the options.
