Range Rover Evoque?
I am ready for the backlash, BUT I think the 4 door (not the coupe) of the new Range Rover Evoque is pretty nice looking, I have always liked Range Rover styling for the most part, but hated their horrible fuel effeciency and lack of power. Now comparing how I would build a X3 with the M Sport package and fully loaded, vs the Evoque Dynamic version (which is pretty much loaded as is) the prices are almost identical and I bet after the first 6 months Land Rover will have deep discounts like they always do, My price range is $50K US. the Evoque should return 0-60 times similar to the current X3 28i, but not as good as the new i4 engine (which is strange since its got the same size motor and weighs several hundred pounds less than the X3, guess BMW engineers are just that much better than Ford's, ) I think the X1 and Mini countryman are too small for my needs, I like the Q5 and X3 but wish they were nicer inside. I know the Range Rover won't be the best performing or effecient of the bunch (19/28 MPG) BUT the interior looks like it blows away the Germans for the same price, especially their two tone red/black combo, that is hot! So the trade off is the luxury inside for a smaller size SUV with slightly less performance and horrible service from Land Rover. I said I would never buy another Land Rover after my LR2 but now I might go back on my word. If only the X3M was coming out sooner, looks like 2013, maybe I will trade in my C63 for it in 2 years... |

I thought the Evoque was more in the X1 size bracket? I like Range Rovers (the big ones) but I wouldn't consider an Evoque over an X3 mostly because of the styling and reliability. Can't see the tech stuff being any better than pro nav on the X3 either

The Evoque is roughly the same size as a new Ford Focus (UK). I've had a drive in a pre prod Prestige model. It was nice, but the boot is tiny. The X3 has a much bigger boot, and if I'm being honest, a better ride.
Although the RR will probably get further off road, but then again how many times do you go knee deep in mud. I have a Discovery 3 (LR3) and I've never been totally off-road in it, even when my place of work is in the deep sticks. The fuel economy on the RR is good, but so is the X3. Horses for courses.

Yes I looked at this as well.
It is nice, especially interior. The engine is a 240hp turbo 4, I opted for 300hp. The main difference is the size. This is comparable to the X1 not the X3. My other reason for not waiting was all the ford pieces and parts...just not my thing... |

size wise: X3 183X74.1X65.4 Cargo 28.5/56.5 (BMW says 19.5 inside but that isn't accurate) RR 171.5X77.4X64.4 Cargo 20.3/51 X1 175X70.78X60.82 Cargo 14.85/? Mini countryman 161.8X70.4X61.5 Cargo 16.5/41.3 Evoque is a really WIDE car though, 3.3 inches wider than the X3 and 6.5 inches wider than the X1, its not too much shorter than the X3 but 3.5 inches taller than an X1, it does give up length to both but I think its mostly engine compartment since they only make it with a i4 engine where BMW left room for the i6 engines! that makes up a lot of room and is the reason total cargo room is only 5.5 cu feet less than an X3. And PAINT SUCKS, our LR2 (when Ford owned them) is the worst paint job I have ever seen, if you touch the car it scratches! cheap cheap paint. but the interior looks so awesome, |

Looks like it shares the cool auto gear selector with Jaguar!
How does the evoque 5 door compare with the 3 door for size?

I think its just height, the 5 door already looks like someone stepped on the tail, the 3 door coupe looks like they really smashed it in, I don't like the looks of the coupe at all (or any other coupe SUV for that matter)

I saw TWO on Wednesday between Coventry and Oxford. Has the Evoque even launched yet? The first was a white one on the opposite carriageway heading south. I did a double take because at first sight I thought it was a Freelander that had had it's roof caved in (I'm deadly serious) before I realised what it was. It was IMHO fugly.
Never seen one before so was really surprised to see a second about 20 mins later. I followed one from the M40 exit onto the A46 towards Coventry for several miles. Oddly this one was a mule. It was a horrible flourescent yellow colour with black "swirlies" all over it. Even stranger it had a "GB" sticker on it and was sporting a 10 plate. It had two strange ribbed plastic pipes poking into the mirror on the right hand side (drivers side in UK) - what's that all about??? This one was even fuglier than the previous one. Seemed strange to see 2 in such quick succession so I figured there was some sort of event on ... possibly the British Grand Prix at Silverstone which is within about 50 miles of these sightings. Its looks will polarise views. I like the look of the Disco and Freelander and begrudgingly the Range Rover is OK too but the Evoque just made me go "yuk". I wouldn't say the X3 is a stunner but it's not a stomach turner.

TuffLittleUnit you saw two Evoque in succession as you drove through RR country, Gaydon to Coventry is their main base with staff travelling to and fro all the time. The yellow one with swirls may have been non-production model to hide some details. You will see loads around where you were most days.

I really like the front styling.. but IMO the rear styling is a turn off , then again I haven't seen the real thing yet. So maybe I'll love it when I see one for real, who knows
To be fair, I didn't like how F25 X3 looked like when I saw pictures online, I thought the third quarter window design is kinda weird.. but when I saw the real car, I fell in love with it |

Saw two in slow convoy on Sunday around Coventry. My daughter thought they were ugly. I think they are just different.

I actually like the look of the front of the car. The problem is, when you see someone standing next to it, get realize just how small it is. It's like a mini on steroids!

The review on Top Gear by Captain Sensible was great. He really liked the car and +1. OK not much space in the back, but looked good and performed very well.

Yeah but the car he was driving was the prestige model and costing £44K ($70,000) Thats the problem with Top Gear, it's pure fluff. funny fluff though.

yeah sucks for you guys in the UK, here I can get a fully loaded one for $54K, Dynamic or Prestige (they are only about $1000 apart), I don't see the point of the Prestige though, unless the leather is really that much nicer, I like the looks of the dynamic more (more like a BMW M Sport)
