I have owned my space gray with Oyster interior for a year now and love the combination. I agree with the other posts it does require weekly/monthly maintenance. The return is a very luxurious, clean and bright looking interior to enjoy. I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner. I have used this product on my leather surfaces for years and am very happy with it.

To answer the original question, NO I do not regret ordering Oyster and would order it again! I really enjoy the color combination.

I will say however that yes it does mark easier than the lighter-colour leathers we have had in our Volvos. Always keep a box of moist wipes in the glovebox for any accidents (but have always done that).

thanks Tony, this was my concern. Between my black and yellow labs, I've been hesitant buying a 'nice' car to replace my subaru dog wagon. Didn't know how difficult the oyster would be to keep clean.

Keep in mind that when I say we have dogs in the car, they are not sitting directly on the leather seats. They are in the back seats which are completely covered (including the backs of the front seats) with a seat protector. The only area not covered is the leather trim on the insides of the rear doors. That I have to wipe down probably every week or two - it takes only a minute or two.

Was showing some discoloration after 900 miles from jeans maybe. Came clean with some Magulars leather conditioner. Didn't need to go to the cleaner. Love the look of the Oyster, cool and inviting to sit in.

We had a bad case of dye transfer to the Oyster seats from my wife's dark blue jeans. Despite efforts from myself, our dealer and a leather refinisher, the dye could not be cleaned - even a few HOURS after the transfer occurred - and we had to have the leather replaced. It DOES happen, so be very, very careful with jeans and the oyster leather. I have heard that many of the darker jeans should be washed before they are worn to get rid of some of the dye and to make a transfer less likely. I also just bought some Leather Master Barrier protection and Dye Transfer Cleaner to hopefully avoid this occurring again.

The problem is with the jeans not the leather. The same would happen with a light sofa in the home.

You are correct, but interestingly, I have the cream beige interior on my 3er Cabriolet, and have experienced no dye transfers or cleaning issues in the 5 years that I have owned the car. And my wife wears the same jeans in both vehicles. Nobody has been able to explain it, but it did happen. I dont know if they were prepared differently or from a different supplier, but buyer beware...

Is it different kind of leather perhaps? Maybe Dakota vs Nappa vs Nevada or something?

Sounds to me like it could be the Oyster leather. Maybe they could have finished it with some sort of anti-agent that would make easier to clean.

Lol . Every dealer says something different. I've even seen a heavy used loaner X3 w/ oyster and the seats were like new.

It's a light color so you have to clean it a little more than you would a dark color. That's as simple as it is. To some it's worth it.. to others it's not. I've seen the all black interior and to us it was boring so we went with the contrasting color..don't regret the move at all

One benefit, if that's the right word, of the Oyster is that the contrasting stitching is dark and doesn't show the muck. I would have thought that the light contrasting stitching on the dark leathers might get grubby in time.
Good to know. I was talked out of the oyster but love it and am also curious about the light stitching getting grubby over time. Next time I'm going with a lighter interior.

Indeed it is. Oyster/Fineline Wave Wood is the most stunning combo for an X3 interior (but then I'm biased).

After 2 months of daily use in (good quality) blue jeans and 2,000 miles, I don't see any need to clean the leather yet...

We have done 18000 miles and it still looks fab..... My boss would not have had black! As for jeans it is only new unwashed jeans that are a problem.

If you regret it after 500km then your seriously not looking after it.

No regrets; two years and 20K miles and the Oyster still looks great.

When I was researching new cars I went to the annual automotive show. BMW had a VR with oyster interior and the seats were noticeably blue jean stained from the thousands of arses sitting in the new car.

This trip to the car show was my primary reason ordering something other than the light seating surface.
