Shakes Head at BMW Mechanics
Today did a bit of out of warranty preventative maint work on my sons 2015 X3 XDrive 28i. 144,000 Km, original coils, plugs last done at 77K by BMW.
So replaced the plugs and coils, had Delphi and NGK installed… replaced with Bosch. Took 20 mins. Plugs were pre-gapped at 31 which I confirmed….same as the NGK which came out. Total cost of job 160 Canadian, same as one coil from BMW. One Ignition coil had some rust and soot, a second one was quite sooty. The plugs under those coils were so loose they were removed by hand. Two at proper torque. No anti seize on last install or dialectic grease. Plugs in good shape but some electrode wear on a couple. But not impressed on the state of the plug torque… Last edited by Bilbofraggins; 09-03-2023 at 01:57 PM.. |

Wow... Don't bring it back to the dealership that did the service last...

Obviously it’s indicative of that mechanic at that time…. But I’m about about to head back to my dealer for the 3rd time for a M40i drivers side ambient light issue… 1st visit, diagnose… second visit - failed replacement and more damage to wiring caused…. Off back for a third visit next month to try again… Dealer is 2 hours away…..one of the reasons I do what I can myself out of warranty. Already getting familiar with the B58….
