ABC news story about BMW's catching fire (not X3 specific)

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/bmw-m...ry?id=47335778

well this is pretty scary - maybe i shouldn't park in the garage anymore.

has anyone heard of this on F25 X3's?

Greg

I have a friend with a Z4 that burst into flames while his wife was driving it. I thought BMW would want to look into the cause, but they didn't.

I know someone who had a BMW 1 Series that suddenly went up in smoke. Luckily he had parked it in the road that day, as he usually parked it on his drive next to the house. BMW Europe did get involved and even invited him over to Germany to discuss the incident, however BMW never pursued it and the case was closed without any real confirmation as to what caused it.

I've not seen or heard of any X3's going up, but judging by how many BMW variants have so far, unfortunately I would never say never!

Holy crap!

Starting to get nervous about parking my 2011 135i and 2011 X3 35i in my garage.

Been parking my pre-owned BMW cars in my homes for years without issues, but with these cars never quite going to sleep mode, once never knows...

made me feel a little better

will leave it to ABC vs Jalopnik.com to fight out real news vs fake news

still makes me nervous as I live in a house w/ garage on ground floor and living space above it.

This was a interesting quot taken from the article
BMW told ABC News that it does not see a pattern with the number of BMWs that have caught on fire.

“We have not seen any pattern related to quality or component failure. Vehicle fires can result from a wide variety of external reasons unrelated to product defect," BMW said in a statement. Part of BMW's explanation is that there are 5 million BMWs on the road, and there have been only dozens of reported fires.

ABC - I seem to recollect they are "connected" to the inventor of "alternate truth".

A campaign to prepare for slamming taxes on imports? BMW is German, but "we can not consider the fact that some of their cars are made in the US - we have to tax all of them"?!
