I'm sure this has been asked somewhere but after numerous searches I just can't seem to find a definitive answer

I used to own an E90 that had a cross member that I could safely lift the rear from, but I've always been advised that this is a potentially weak spot that could bend. See attached pic. Any tips with pics would be appreciated!

Sorry, there is a joint agreement by most carmanufacturer to not support us doing some work in our garages.

There are no such central jacking points, which has been designed to take the load from vehicle.

I have it on my MY-97 9000, but that was engineered 1978-1984

Sorry I can't tell if you are being serious about the first point or if sarcasm was intended...

No sarcasm intended. I worked for SAAB during the development of 9000, and managed to get front and rear jacking points - despite aftermarket saying we should not have it, in order to push for workshops getting work. For next car, there was no central jacking points.

I have always understood that jacking either the rear or the front was inherently unstable, because of the short distance between the wheels (as opposed to jacking the sides, where you have the (longer) wheelbase to provide stability.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated! I actually managed to jack the rear of the car up briefly (just long enough to slip the stands underneath the left and right jacking points) using the rear differential and being careful not to lift by the cover. This was possible on my E90 and proves to be true on the F25 as well. Not sure of long term effects but my E90 never seemed to have any issues over the 10 years I owned it.

True. But I don't leave it on the center jack. I use it to get it up in the air so I can put jackstands under the jack pads on the sides.

Although I couldn't swear that I've never done a couple of quick things under the car with just a center jack.

Just wondering, are you saying to get the car in the air to place jack stands, this IS a good place to jack or IS NOT a good place to jack? and if not, where is a recommended place? (with pics if possible)
