Comfort access

Hi folks,

Noticed this when washing x3 the other day. I had key fob in my pocket, veh locked, i was able to open locks by shooting water at the door handle from hose.

I thought you actually had to touch the handle with your hand. Anyone else experience this?

Yup. Gotta get that key outta range or it keeps happening via hose, water dripping from sponge to door, through the sponge, etc. First time it happened I thought I was "butt opening" it from the fob in the pocket. Moved it around in the pocket, changed pockets, then tried to do it intentionally and finally figured out that wasn't the deal. Probably looked like a complete jackass moving around the car in the driveway . . .

Does this mean that the car will repeatedly lock/unlock while going through a carwash with the key inside? Or does this only apply to unlock?

Yep just noticed that 'feature' yesterday while washing the car too.

It seems weird to me.

It's when the key is outside, not inside.

No. It has never happened to me with me and the key fob inside. It regularly happens when I'm outside doing any hand washing.

Thanks. I wish I could say I'll only ever hand-wash it but with 100+ degree summers here in Arizona that's just not gonna happen

I use a touchless-only car wash when I cannot hand-wash. A brush has never touched my X3. My desire to hand-wash, New England weather, and the vagaries of life don't always match up. I know my local touchless car wash better than I would like to. But I don't have any swirl marks either. And I hand-wash when I can.

Water has a similar capacitance to human skin, so it thinks you're touching it.

Shouldn't do anything if the key is *in* the truck, just next to it - like when you're washing it. To be honest, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Happened to me too, just last weekend. I thought it was because I had pressed it by accident in the pocket, but was able to sometimes reproduce the lock/unlock with the hose.
On the other hand, the comfort access doesn't always work for me when I go to lock the door. After trying a few times, I just reach into my pocket and push the button - kind of defeats the purpose.
