Going overseas for 3 weeks...

Do I need to have someone start and run my 2011 X3? or is it fine just the way it is?

I've heard about battery loss with all the electronics, etc...

I wouldn't worry too much about it... You could always get a boost for a neighbour's kia or ford.

I've gone away for 2 weeks and still had 12 volts left in the battery when I returned.

But seriously, the car should be just fine for three weeks. The parasitic draw is minimal and it is summer.

Even the computer in my 2004 honda would disable parasitic draw if the battery drained to a preset lower limit... I would expect our x3's to do the same thing. Below is an extract of the owner's manual which is repeated a few times through the manual so I assume the BMW computer matches the 2004 honda's sophistication.

Seems my dealer was the only one to include a trickle charger? When I took possession of the X3 we went through the whole car and at the end showed me a trickle charger in the small compartment in the back; 2+ weeks without using the car he told me it would be a good idea to use it in case the battery dies.

Exactly, shouldn't even be an issue in a modern car

I left a car for 3 months once over winter and it was fine. It's a new car so the battery should be good, I would only be worried if the battery was old or poor quality.

X3 F25 with lots of electronics definitely consumes more power in sleep mode than the conventional cars, one has to try to see if it can retain enough juice even after 3 months of sleep.
