Navigation routing differences 2013 - 2015

Anyone know a way to get the routing from newer models into the Navigation on older?

I regularly make a couple different 400 mile drives and the route that my 2013 gives me is ridiculous. It is more than 50 miles and 30 minutes longer than Google, Apple, Waze. I have tried all the route types and even looked at the extra options it shows with no luck. I assumed the BMW routing just sucks until I had a 2015 and made one of the trips. To my surprise, it picked the optimized route first try.

My car: 2013 X3 35i m-sport with 2017-01 navigation data (updated last night)
Loaner 2015 X3 28i

My car has picked the same route regardless of the navigation data I have. I have tried stock, 2016-01 and now 2017-01.

Yes, you can buy the updated maps. Check the "for sale" forums on the various sites, or search the web.

It also depends on the traffic condition.

1. It matters little what map you are using. Over a 400 mile route there are many varying factors that come into play. Two that come to mind....

a. Traffic conditions when the route is worked out by the Sat Nav. They could be substantially different 1 hour later.

b. The settings (avoidance's, Eco Pro, fastest, shortest) you have put in the Sat Nav itself. You could call them them your default settings once you have set them up.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have update the maps twice in the last year. I just installed the latest last night with the same results.

I have tried all of the route settings, Eco Pro, Fastest, Shortest. They come up with a couple different routes, all of them worse than the original.

The traffic angle is interesting. I'll try disabling it to see if it makes any difference. I doubt it will unless there is a bug as the route being avoided is a 4 lane interstate through the middle of Iowa with almost no traffic.

The 2013 does not get all the up to date information that a 2015 may get. Since your 2013 most likely became obsolete when AT&T shut down their 2g network so your car no longer can get all the up to date information. The car still gets traffic information from sirius xm but that is not as accurate as the latest cars which get up to date information through their 3g data unit.

It is a combination of updated firmware as well as updating maps. The ladder comes with any road changes as well as POI.
