I noticed it also this morning (during my quite early commute). My previous C300 outside mirror (only driver's side dims) also did not dim very much but it did dim. I didn't see any noticeable dimming on the X3. Maybe I need to check under other conditions (e.g. more cars with lights on behind me, weather conditions, etc). However,I suspect the only sensors are in the rearview mirror. It would be great if coding was found to provide e.g. 3 settings and the default was either off or on lowest amount of dimming .

Noka, I've gone as far as partially blocking the sensor on the back of the mirror to simulate dark exterior lighting conditions with no success. I'm thinking an option now might be reflective window tint installed only on the glass adjacent to the sideview mirrors.

Or sunglasses . I don't recall, but did anyone question dealer service? I assume they have methods to simulate/test.

These choices do not exist on my 2012 x3 35i w/ nav, hud, pdc and dhp. Not under KOMBI/3300 either as others have suggested.

Ideas?

I'd like to be able to open and close the powered tailgate with the remote while the car is locked. I'm in the UK and this is disabled on my car. I can only open the tailgate when the car is unlocked and it won't close with the remote at all, you have to press the button inside the tailgate or in the drivers seat well.

Is this possible and does anyone have details of what I need to change to enable this? Apologies if this has already been covered.

Anyone have any pointers on the above? I know the coding will activate closing the tailgate with the fob but is there a specific setting for allowing opening of the tailgate when the vehicle is locked?

I know this may sound silly, but did you hold the button on the FOB down for a couple seconds? It's like that to prevent you from accidently opening your tailgate while the key is in your pocket.

Yes I've tried it numerous times. With the car UNLOCKED it opens. With the car LOCKED it doesn't. Apparently this is the way it's supposed to work in the UK if you DON'T have comfort access. I have a powered tailgate but not comfort access.

So does anybody know how to code this to work when the car is locked?

Have also discovered another function with the tailgate which I'd didn't read anywhere else. If the tailgate is open, you can close it with the remote button but only by holding the button down. If you release the button the tailgate stops closing. Again it would be useful to be able to close by just having to press the button for a couple of seconds.

Sounds like no one knows the coding change to alter this.

Finally got round to doing some coding today. Have managed to get a few things changed but the tailgate function is not working.

I've activated the elements on the cheat sheet for closing tailgate with remote fob but it still will not open if the car is locked. It also still requires the fob button to be held down for the tailgate to close. If you release the button the tailgate stops. I can't believe this can't be changed through coding.

After leaving the car overnight the functionality has changed since coding. The tailgate will now close with one press of the remote button. This is an improvement. However it still won't open when the car is locked.

Can anyone help with the coding to enable opening of the tailgate when the car is locked?

DVD/Video and M Logo splash on instrument cluster

Hi all, couple of coding related questions:

1. I've enabled DVD play at any speed and it works great. I've setup an unused Iphone 4 as a music video server so its always in the snap in. Works great except sometimes on startup I get music but no video unless I snapy the iPhone out and back in. Anybody seen this ?

2. Saw on the E90 board somewhere that there is Kombi BMW Logo setting that will show an M Sport Log as a small splash screen on start up. Anyone done this or was I reading it wrong ?

Thanks in advance and a shout out to April1 for getting me into coding ...you the man !

I'd like to code a M-sport logo on the that screen too. I looked around and couldn't find the logo splash screen any where in the CAFD files.

Hi everyone! New to the X3 world, and would like to code my 2013 x3 with some of the features everyone is mentioning. I had a 2012 528i xdrive(f10) and coded that so I'm use to coding. My problem is that I had to wipe my hard drive so I lost the esys program, and was wondering if anyone knows the links to get the free software so I don't have to pay for it. Any help would be great.

The locks are a issue. Can anyone figure out how when exiting the vehicle you can press the lock button, exit the car, and the doors would be locked? My wife constantly complains about his and says there are no female engineers at BMW and the guys there never have to fish a fob out of a purse with a armful of groceries to lock a car!!
