Thumbs down BMW, what the hell are you doing???!

Ok, so after reading all these positive comments about the new x3 and lots of drooling on nice pics and movies I found on this and other sites I decided to go check the BMW dealership for a new X3.

For the first time since I drive BMW I fell from 1 disappointment into another, BMW, what the F* are you guys doing???!

1. Waiting time in Belgium for a new X3 is minimum 1 year according to salesperson - > show already over for me, I can and will not accept this... (wil check in another dealership where I know the people in the next few days)
2. Available colors and combinations are so f'ing limited, what the hell... and they have the guts to literally say in their commercial that the new x3 has millions of possible configuration options???
3. The M-sports pack... well I'm not a fan of it for the X3, i just want a simple (but full option), classy black x3, with shadowline around windows, etc... guess what, I can only get freakin roofrailes if I take them in freakin silver, what the F*?!
And what's up with the RIms comming with the M-pack, I just want those f'ing nice 19" that come with the standard version of the X3

I'm currently at my 3th BMW in 5 years time... and I am almost ashamed to say... but thing like this makes me move towards my first brand again... the other german triple A brand... Audi
I remember the time I had to move to BMW because the waiting times at Audi were to long... I don't wanna go back, but BMf'ingW is making it hard to keep respect for there fucked up way of doing business with us European customers

Chill out, frustrating yes but the end of the world..... nope

Demand is big for the F25

Audi Q5 apporx 6 months wait and might be worth a punt - not as good but probably quicker delivery

You can buy roof rails as accessory, and you can buy option called 3MB who are a combination of X-Line and shadow line or shadow line who has # 760.

Agree on the comment about the limitation in color combos. If you want a light interior you get white with black or all beige. Volvo offers much more combinations for the XC60.

Don't understand why BMW use this as a USP while in reality the choice is limited. Marketeers... :-)

Ps going to another dealer might give a better picture of lead-time. Currently it's like 9 months or so (not good, but a bit better)

I wonder about that. BMW has been seriously advertising the X3 at the national level, at least in the US. With the amount of money they've invested in the ads, I'd expect a lot of interest and potentially increased sales, especially as the weather gets better and more people start thinking about new cars.

We don't watch very much TV, but here (the Midwest) it seems there's a BMW X3 commercial on cable every time we turn it on. If their ad campaign works, it won’t just be the “early adopters” like us that will be waiting in line to throw their hard earned cash at the closest BMW dealership.

The apparent interest at the Chicago Auto Show was very intense.

At some point the sales will obviously taper off, but I wouldn't bet that it's going to be in the next few months. Then again, I'm not a marketing specialist or BMW dealer, so who knows?

DOn't see it on the Belgian site and the salesperson seemed also not to be aware of this... maybe it's an option possible in the US but not in Europe or Belgium?

The only thing i saw was shadow line as option at the german site but still not with shadow line roof raile

I understand it can get quite frustrating Coiken. There seems to be a very high demand for the X3 and the farther away you are from the production plant the longer you have to wait. Seeing some people get a 1-2 week turn around from the time they order to receiving I thought my 2 months were bad but it seems buyers from countries outside of the US have it much worse.

I've also heard the so-called "millions of combination" and it's definitely a marketing ploy. There's currently 10 exterior colors, 7 interiors, and 3 trims. What kind of color were you interested in? Perhaps some kind of color other than shades of gray?

Thanks for the replies guys!

That we in europe would need to wait an extra month due to shipping, etc... I would understand, but wait times between 10 months and 1 year are unacceptable... And then there is the other serieus issue of to limited freedom for people to configure THE x3 they want! Comon BMW, don't ruin a great new model like this with stupid marketing decisions!

I would almost think Steve jobs is somehow involved :-d

Then wait.

When I ordered my MCS back in '05, I had to wait five months. Same for my '09 328i. We've been having to play the waiting game in the US for years for a custom order.

I love my X3 and I'm so glad I didn't get a Q5 but if I was told there was a 12 month wait for one back in October when I ordered I would have walked away so I understand your frustration. It will put buyers off so I think it will be addressed by BMW if it continues. I hope you can get the wait time down and get yourself one. Good luck

Now that I'm callmed down a bit, some more info

- the dealership i checked yesterday claimed to have only 36 or 37 X3's they could get produced this year, this is ofcourse many times less then the demand of new X3's.

- Dealership could give me 7% reduction + give all options under 500€ for free (around 2000€ in total)

- It's just a matter of taste but I strongly advise people who choose for the Silver exterior colour with red-brown interieur and alu brushed inside finish to first try to see in in real... in my opinion this is a big NONO... this is a matter of taste, so if you like it, your choice

I phoned another dealership, they could deliver one the earliest in december, so already a bit less then the previous but still to looooooong

My config would be:

- 20d
- Black saphire
- 19" alloys
- dark windows
- Shadowline exterior
- Sunroof
- Premium pack (Xenon, leather, gps pro, etc...)
- topview camera (or whatever that's called)
- Automatic transmission
- Oyster leather
- sport seats
- Adaptive euhhh spring or what is that called again

At the end, almost ending up with a full option vehicle, cost with reduction already off: 60.000€
I think expensive enough to at least give a man the possibility to get shadowline roof rails, no?

It was a few people got their car before x-mas but they had ordered production slots early in 2010 before the X-3 second gen.was officially released.

If you're spending that much already, here's my solution for you.
Go to your BMW dealership and ask them to paint your aluminum satin roof rails with a matte black, exactly as the black of the shadowline trim, which, if you don't get, you can have painted as well. This will cost a premium (in the thousands), but you seem set on it. You can also have the rear bumper and side skirt plastic trims painted the color of the car (aftermarket), and then you have no problem. You're getting essentially everything on the car, and it's a great car. Maybe order it at a dealership in another country in Europe less susceptible to the wait angst, and then take a train to go pick it up, and then have yourself a fun little road trip back home? Could be a good way to use those vacation days, touring the continent.

I drove one at the dealership three days before Christmas, ordered it right then, nearly full-spec, and by mid-February, I had my car.

@Nahoa:

The official launch in the UK was November. Some people ordered back in August and took delivery in December. I test drove one in October and ordered the next day.

AlpineTourist in Switzerland was one of the first I know about. Oct/Nov delivery I think.
