I hate this ridiculous giant key fob

Has anyone successfully recoded a smaller key (e.g. E90) to work with their F25?

Please say yes.

Maybe one day we won't need a key and use the smart phone's NFC/Bluetooth. Then we'll replace the key with a 5.5" phone.

Barbera335, thanks for taking the time to drop by and share your opinion even though you didn't have anything constructive to contribute with respect to my original question.

That said, let's be honest, most of the posts "enthusiast" boards are first world problems.

Was any of the tuning, coding, or modding any of us has done actually necessary, strictly speaking? Or the endless navel-gazing we all engage in on the relative merits of various color combinations and option packages.

So please don't forget to thread-crap those discussions as well. I'm sure the other posters will also appreciate your fresh perspective on how little their concerns matter to you.

Could you buy an empty case of the smaller type and swap the internals over?

Coming from a car where you had to put the key in a slot

It's not the size of the key that bothers me .. But where to put it !

And then remembering where in put it

At least in the dash I just grabbed it and got out

I think BMW can really learn something here from ..... Renault

The Renault cards are very slim and not bigger than a creditcard. You keep it in your pocket, and as soon as you touch the door, it unlocks. You don't have to get it out of your pocket (or handbag!).

I have to say I am not a fan of the big key fob. For me it is more to do with the fact that it does not look premium. I would be happy to pay for an upgrade if there was one available.

my fob never leaves my pocket so the size isn't that bad. Touch the doors they unlock. I put it in a leather cover and its all good. I would think much smaller and finding it would be the problem. Now if BMW had a micro chip for under my skin and no fob at all I would do that.

Well, I got used to it... I actually like all BMW's Fobs... But i would like to know if there is any way to code it... I say just suck it up and get used to the key...

When I carry my E90 key alone , I cannot feel it in my pocket. I normally freak out as the door doesn't unlock and then I pat around pockets and do not feel anything. Then I finally realize that I do not have comfort access and I am not carrying my F25 key fob.
I do agree that it could be slightly smaller, but not too much.

I get a bit fed up of bending down to tie/untie my shoes in the house only to hear the car boot open outside because I've managed to press the button on the keyfob.

I feel your pain.

My desk at work is at a corner window maybe 15 yards from where I park my car. On more than one occasion I have returned to my 525d at the end of the day to find the boot open to the world because the key has pressed at some point in my pocket during the day...

Sometimes I love the range / power of the key, but sometimes it is downright frustrating!

Why do you have to touch (Renault and the BMW comfort access). Even my old Ford had keyless entry that just worked as you approached the door.

Am I the only one who find it hard to feel the right side of the fob to find the open button when its in my pocket?

Had the car nearly 4 months and I still end up pressing the back of the key fob as both sides feel so similar.

I would also prefer if when using it to lock the car that the indicators flashed twice. The single flash I often miss as locking when walking away. If I press again you get the sound of the door locks but only if you are close enough to hear it. So I often end up hitting open then close again just to confirm I locked the car. Must be eating my keyfob battery up.

Do you not have the folding mirrors?

If so when locking the car, keep the centre button (BMW logo) pressed until the mirrors fold. This gives you confidence and the visual that the car is fully locked.

I've managed to press down the Unlock button on the key in my pocket causing the car to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof, leaving the car exposed in the plaza for over an hour while I'm inside at a meeting.

I am now ordering those leather cases for the key... though it just adds to the bulk.

This is a common problem on all F series cars. I had an F31 and there were times that I looked out of my house window and saw the tailgate was open because I had bent down and inadvertently pressed the open button.

Solution..never leave the key fob in your pocket when in the house. Hang it up or put it in a place that is not prominent but known to the people who need to know.

Well ... Here's one for you

Loaded the car up to take some old stuff to the tip (dump)

Stopped at a set of lights and the auto stop kicked in ..

The key was in the cup holder in the centre console along with mobile phone.

Lights go green . I start off .. Load flys put the back as the tailgate has risen magically on its own !!!

Ok I was distracted by my 6 year old .. But I never noticed !!

Can only think the button was pressed by the phone in the cup holder

Fortunately all that fell out was an old computer monitor

But I was speechless, embarrassed .. Then thought it was hilarious after my son got the giggles watching me dodge cars to retrieve the now smashed screen

How on earth ?

lol

I will have to get a cover. I have been setting off the panic alarm for the last 6 years on my Nissan. Strangely enough never did it on the previous nearly identical fob so there must be some minor differences in resistance to accidental presses.

I don't like to hang up my keys because I will always find myself in the garage wondering why the doors won't open.

To best honest, I never accidentally opened anything with my fob in my pocket wearing jeans, khakis, shorts, cargo shorts, suits, etc. . How tight are everyone's pants here? lol The size doesn't bother me - I really don't notice it.
