I wouldn't imagine it would be worth the trouble or cost.

The factory moonroof is already quite finicky, search these forums for issues with rattling and creaking noises as an example. It also contributes significantly to general interior noise, so much so that I drive with it closed about 80% of the time and only run it open/uncovered on Sunday afternoon drives in summer.

The OP lives in Ireland....the strange thing about those of us in colder and wetter climates is that sunroofs and convertibles see more use than you'd at first expect. In Cape Town you probably want to hide from the sun, we have to make the most of any we get!

I'm on my 2nd X3 with a moonroof, so far I've had very few times it's creaked. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe our temps are not extreme cold or hot. As for an aftermarket roof, I'd research them really well as you don't want to devalue to the car. I've no idea what they are like nowadays but if they sit proud of the roof I'd expect some windnoise.

NEVER NEVER NEVER DO IT! It's the worst mod to do. It will give you more headaches down the road. Imagine they have to cut an opening in the roof, test fit the sunroof, install it and make sure it seals properly and works properly and repaint roof. Too much headaches. Not to mention the structural rigidity is no longer the same. I would just trade in for one with sunroof if that's something I really want.

Haha, fair enough!

We are definitely very fortunate with sunshine here, even a winter's day here is often glorious with temperatures never dropping below 4 or 5deg C...

do NOT make a hole in your roof! You can completely ruin your car.

Good decision not to.
I don't open mine that often. This winter the creak sound has annoying, I did not try the felt pad solution. There was one who purposely avoided the mroof option to avoid the sound issues. Factory Mroof is good for resale.
