small coolant leak, 2011 x328i..
seems to be coming from one of the hoses under the 'bowling ball'...
my experience has been that small leaks often turn into large ones.. i'm suspecting a clamp issue, since these hoses are 'only' 5 years old, and with low ( 32k ) mileage...and she has been babied for the last 10k .. 8>) almost impossible to see up in there...anybody else have this issue, please? regards, Dan, in Longview, Texas...semi-hard core DIY type |

I just got a low coolant message the other day. I couldn't spot a leak.
I did dig into other member's posts and it seems the "bowling bowl" which is the expansion tank is a likely culprit on these cars. |

I replaced the coolant expansion tank in my 2011. It was leaking via a tiny crack in the bottom where the level sensor clips in. Reach up and see if it is wet around the electrical connecotr and level sensor. There is also a hose connection, behind the level sensor, but I think it is more common on the level switch.
It's hard to see under there, I used my iphone with it's light on in movie mode to diagnose where there was coolant residue to see where the leak originated. |
