F25 RPM RISE on its own while at stop light.

Hi all, I've noticed my 2017 X3 35i has an un-commanded RPM rise while stopped at a light. This happens all on its own (I'm not pressing the accelerator pedal accidentally with my foot on the brake) it goes from about 650RMP to about 800-900RPM for a second or two and then comes back down. It even does this with the climate control turned off- not the A/C compressor cycling on and off. I ran diagnostics reader and it isn't spitting out any codes. Anyone have this issue on F25???

Thanks!!

Generally speaking this can happen due to increased load on the engine due to the A/C, Alternator, etc.

Could be your coils or spark plugs on the way out but if it's happening with the engine at temp only while stopped in gear, it's probably normal fluctuation due to electrical or other requirements. It doesn't appear to be erratic, looks pretty controlled from your second vid.

Plugs are brand new. Wouldn't a coil malfunction throw out a code? A/C is off and this still happens.

Which diagnostic reader did you use that you said it wasn't spitting out any codes?

No, at least not until it causes a misfire. What's your odometer at?

62,000

Interestingly, the RPM rise does not happen when the transmission is in sport or manual mode. Not sure why, but it only does this in D standard mode.

I'm not familiar with "car scanner". Many of them do not retrieve all the manufacture specific codes. Use ista+, there may be some shadow codes or history that may help diagnose.

I also looked in the cars "hidden" menu(accessed by holding down the button on the dash for 20 seconds and then entering the sum of last 5 numbers of VIN to unlock) and it has a code section. There were no codes stored in there either.

I'm not sure if the hidden menu will show all stored codes. I'd recommend ista+.

It won't, it shows a select few codes.

Problem solved with battery disconnect and reconnect. When in doubt, Ctrl + Alt + Delete
