I thought I'd drag up this old thread...

Has anyone had the backup camera retrofit done on the 2nd gen x3?

I'm not concerned about top down... just the rear camera.

Top View saved my rims yesterday - saw the high curb so I avoided hitting it.

I've read every reply of this thread. Has anyone successfully retrofitted a backup rearview camera on his/her X3? I just recently got my 2014 X3 xDrive 28i. It does not have a rearview camera as far as I can tell, and I really need it because we have a lot of small kids in my community. I need it, man.

This is all I could find. Looks like a great option, just can't see, to find it for X3's. anyone know if this will work?

Retrofit Rear View

Hello,
I've just finished to collect all parts needed to retrofit original Rear View Camera to my F25 built 10/2011.

Parts List:

1. 5124.4866142 Taster Heckklappe
2. 6112.2183660 Retrofit wiring set
3. 6515.9188582 Rack to mount ECU
4. 6653.9282420 RearView ECU (only rearview no topview)
5. 6653.9240351 Rearview Camera

All these parts can be purchased at your Dealer (have a look at ebay too!) or you can try to order a complete retrofit set from BMW (6621.2183723), but as I have heard it is'nt available at the moment. You can get an retrofit installation guide at BMW too (EA2209048) or send me a pn .

Retrofitting seems not to be too diffiicult, but prerequisit is to hava a Navi installed and after installing you have to code the new option (3AG).

I intend to install it soon and I will make and publish a DIY.

Hope this information was helpful for you!

Sounds exciting. Can you make a youtube video tutorial when you are working on it?

Also, is there a way to find out using my VIN number if my X3 is rearview camera ready?

I've contacted bimmertech.net over this subject, as with other member pointed out, you will need PDC for factory original rear camera, which will run around $1500.

The easy way is to buy their aftermarket rear camera retrofit kit for $600. You run a cable to the dashboard without PDC

I too will be interested to see how this pans out. During negotiations at the dealer, the option with backup camera and PDC was a feature I wanted and was mentioned several times. But somehow both the sales person and myself failed to notice that the final configuration was missing this option. I only noticed it was missing after taking delivery. I asked the sales person to check with parts/service if it was possible to retro fit and of course the answer I received was "No".

True. Why is it so hard to see that last inch?

back up camera aftermarket

Escort makes a back-up camera that replaces your review mirror with one that uses a portion of the mirror for the video screen:

Hey Sprollonis, do you have PDC on your car prior to rear view camera installation?

Hey was doing research for about 2 months to find options for our 2013 BMW x3, was looking to install it myself if possible or take it to someone for a reasonable cost. I found the http://www.jemkosystems.com/backup-c...ra-system.html for the new X3's in particular; started the installation of the camera myself but then took it to a car audio installer that was recommended by jemko for the interface module installation. All in all the backup camera is great, clear image and seems high resolution, at the time I bought it they didnt have the new tailgate handle camera yet. Installation seems pretty simple and was definitely a good system to go with in my opinion.

I bought my OEM Kit from Bimmer-Tech...
Had it installed by IDB Racing in Houston...
Works great, I am happy so far!
