1/2 way to Barrie.

I'm sure I'll grow to hate the white stuff in a couple of months.

Here is another pic of the X3 making snail tracks.

You guys got a fair amount. We only have a few inches where I am near Colorado Springs. The high mtns got dumped on...good for the skiers!

The roads were pretty icy on Friday night and I am not real thrilled with grip I get from these OEM Goodyear Eagle LS2 run-flats. I prefer the Michelin MXM4 I had on my '05 X3.

Yes, I am curious how the Goodyear LS2 do. I had Pirelli Ice & Snow on my X5. They were unstoppable.

We just had our first major snowfall of the year in New Jersey, and I was reminded how good the X3 is in snow (when equipped with a good set of winter tires).

Road conditions were terrible last night - highways were snow covered, secondary roads looked like a sheet of ice, and local streets were rutted after a fast six inch snowfall. The X3 with Blizzaks handled it almost as if the snow wasn't there at all.

Sometimes I wish we had as much snow as you folks north of the border. I don't get too many chances to test this car's true capabilities.

We just had a major fall of snow, perfect timing for me to pick up my x3

I drove up to dealership in snow storm in my 2012 328 without xdrive and drove away in my new (to me) 2013 x35.

Wow what a difference. No winter tires on (there is just 16k on these all seasons) but it handled amazing!! Super excited to head out and drive today!

We were out last night in -15c with about 6" of snow and I could hardly tell. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, great traction... it was like a beautiful spring day. That is until I had to stop. No hiding the fact that car's 2 tonnes of mass wanted to continue in motion.

That's why I went with the WS-70 Blizzaks - plenty of "bite" under braking and steering. I knew I was going to give up a little dry road handling with these, but they're great in this weather. I've had both Bridgestone and Pirelli performance winter tires in the past. They were all good, but these are clearly superior in snow and ice. (I agree that you can't ignore the laws of physics, too! Keep it slow and steady and leave plenty of room around others.)

I see what your saying about not stopping well. It seems like it's snowing every other day here in the NE. Drove on snow covered streets yesterday. If I hit the brakes hard, the antilock kicks in and stopping distances are long. I wish I could turn that off. When you lock up the front wheels in the snow the snow builds up in front of the tires helping you to stop a bit. I still find that they have good grip to get going, no issues there. Downshifting seemed to help with slowing down pretty well.

The Nokian Hakka R2s are awesome on the X3, complete confidence driving in any snow or ice, braking is excellent. Barely even notice when crossing lanes on the highway and theres the buildup in between the lanes. I find myself driving on the outer unplowed edge of on/off ramps behind all the slow cheap people who dont get snow tires just for the fun of it.

I put a new set of Blizzak WS-70's on my X3 35i XDrive Msport in late November and they're awesome. I live in Barrie (which is mentioned in posts # 5 and 6.

According to Auto Express, the best winter tyres are (in order) -

Nokian WR D3
Conti TS 850
Goodyear UltraGrip 8
Michelin Alpin A4
Hankook Winter iCept RS
Dunlop SP Winter Sport D4
Pirelli Sottozero Winter 210 Serie 11
Zeta Antarctica

I usually buy Michelin for the winter, but took some advice from some Canadian friends for my new X3 and bought Nokian; also realised that they were exactly 2/3 the cost of the Michelins !

We are running the Nokian WR3 SUV, we haven't had any snow yet but I am really impressed with the performance under normal everyday driving. Prior to buying i had read some reports of these tyres losing traction in normal weather under hard acceleration, we have not replicated this yet on our car yet.
