X3 SE with 369M Staggered

Just bought some 'going cheap' staggered 369M's from Ebay.
Advertised with 4 to 5mm, I measured 6mm.
I was looking for 18" wheels and tyres, but got the 369's because of price. Had them fitted today. Look a lot better then OEM 17" which I'll keep for my Winter tyres.
Pics attached to help with your own wheel choice.

These are my favorite wheels and they look superb on your car! I always think that the wheels make the car. Lovely sharp photos too!

I agree that the 369 Staggered look good, but they are much noisier & a harder ride that the 17 inch I use as winter tyres.

As soon as the current (summer) 369 pirelli tyres are needing replacing, I shall switch to 17 inch all year round.

Anyone interested in a staggered set of 369s with about 5mm tyres in Portsmouth?

Presumably the 19s are RFTs and the 17 "proper" tyres. I wonder how proper 19s would compare vs the RFTs, it might be that much (not all) of the difference is down to tyre type rather than wheel size.

Has anyone here changed their 19" runflats to normal tyres (on an M Sport if possible)?
If so, how much of a difference did it make to the general handling and ride quality of the car?

No, both the winter 17 inch (305s) and summer 19 inch (369s) are RFTs and both are Pirelli tyres. I am not happy sending SWMBO on longish trips without being on RFTs.

Interestingly, I track my MPG of Fuelly and can detect no difference between the 17 inch & 19 inch wheels.

I feel the ride is a little firmer on the 19 inch wheels, but not overly so.
I haven't noticed a noise increase yet, but I haven't been on the motorway yet.
BUT I do need to put some more air into the tyres- they are reading 30PSI.
Manual reads 2.2BAR/ 32PSI all around- is that good, or a bit more?
My X3 mostly carries a light load.

BTW- my 17" wheels have non RFT on them. OEM Dunlop Sport Maxx

I have just changed to non-run flat on my 369Ms. So far I am very pleased with the improved ride. Obviously the suspension still feels firm, but not as firm as it is with run flats. The ride is much softer and more forgiving on bad roads, but the handling does not feel compromised. I paid about £800 for all four, which is OK I think. I decided to stick with Pirelli as they are a BMW fit. Bridgestone and Michelin have softer rubber compounds though and might have improved the ride even more.

ianfp- did you pay a premium for getting BMW * tyres? Or are they only available '*''d.
Also how many miles did your previous set last? (assuming they are worn out)

Hi Phil, the * tyres were the same price as non * - just fewer to choose from.

I had Pirelli P Zero Nero run flat fitted, which in fact have only done 9000 miles, so I kept them as there is loads of tread left! I'm not sure if I will ever use them again?

I would offer to buy your old tyres off you, but I already have my old summer set, and winter set in the garage. That reminds me to get the 17" alloys chained up otherwise they could go walkabout

Thanks for the reply, definitely worth knowing for when it comes to changing my current runflats, although I guess I need to weigh up the pros and cons of the runflats. I'm sure the wife would like to keep the Runflats from a safety perspective.

Were the new standard tyres you purchased 'XL' as it doesn't state that on the lable in your photo?

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply!

The tyres are Standard load rating as per the factory fit P Zero run flat.

A quick update on the 369's.
I can definitely feel the extra rubber on the road- I don't know how it's affecting my MPG. Going from 225's all round to, 245 Front 275 Rear- I wonder how much more cm2 there is on the road.
On smooth tarmac all is good. Seems to be a little less roll when cornering. I'm taking speed humps a little slower.
As per Ianfp the ride might be better on non RFT's.
I'll run these wheels and tyres until Winter, then switch to 225/17 winter tyres.
The wheels do look very good. It's the ride vs looks.
Does active suspension make the ride better with 19" wheels?
