Help please - codes 120208 / 120408 Turbo Pressure Control

2013 X3 35i 20.000 miles

Bought the car last week, first day driving home propulsion error, reduced power. Turned it off, engine ok again, drove a few miles, same error again.

Next day scanned and found codes 120208 (charging pressure control, plausibility pressure too high) and 120408 (charging pressure control, deactivation: pressure build-up blocked

Car history: before selling the car last owner took it to BMW, changed oil and filters, rear tires and spark plugs. Next day car returned to BMW with propulsion light on, BMW changed Turbo Pressure Conversor (Part Number: 11747649407)

As the car was not in use for the last 4 months I took its gasoline out, it looked terrible, bad smell and appearance, put new premium gasoline on it and thought I found the problem, but driving home I got the propulsion error again.

Car is back to BMW, they still do not know what the problem is, any ideas?

Thank you all !!!

Most likely somewhere in the fuel system, something is blocked or damaged.

Wast gate?

Dealer should call for help from BMW service technician - they (dealer), obviously, can't handle this.

Thank you Tjalle! What about the spark plugs? BMW service changed them all just 1 day before the problem started.

The vacuum lines to the pressure converter were installed backwards. This causes vacuum pressure to not release and the boost pressure too high fault as well as the deactivation fault are stored. Reverse the lines at the pressure converter and this will correct your problem. The converter is mounted to the side of the valve cover and the lines were probably switched when the spark plugs were replaced. I have seen it before on the N55 engine.

Thumbs up exact same problem solved

I had the same error after having my wife x3 at bmw for regular oil change, so I took a pick and one of the lines was disconnected, so this thread save me a visit to the shop, thank you so much barbera335

Hi Barbera335,

I do have that fault codes 120208 (charging pressure control, plausibility pressure too high) and 120408 (charging pressure control, deactivation: pressure build-up blocked.

And my car is a 2011 F10 535i. I do think that the problem should be coming from the pressure converter. But what I don't understand is when you said pressure converter were installed backwards." Does it mean when I first bought the car , it was already installed backwards? I didn't have that fault codes before until now and I never touched the pressure converter and no previous repaired.

Should I just get a new boost solenoid and replace it ?

My car has some vibration. When driving, I don't feel it. but when I am at a stop, once car is idle I feel the strong vibration. Strong vibration also happen in the morning cold start. Do you think that is also related to the pressure converter. I wonder if I have to change the vacuum hose along with the converter.

Any information or help will be great. I have been searching for expertise advise online but seem like no one knows but you diagnostic seem very accurate. I would like to hear some feedback from you.

This is the weird sound coming out from the driver side engine bay.

Best Regards
Ced
