Thanks for the pictures Peter, I am going to squeeze it in, closer to the rear view mirror housing so it's hidden a little more. The unit comes away from the base,so no issue with accessing the memory card.

Yes I agree it would be desirable. Problem is the dark pimpled area down the side of the mirror boss starts to come into view on the right hand side of the image as you move it across. That was the problem I had with the Mobius.

I will be moving it from Tuesday onwards (out on Monday) to see if I can move it more towards the centre without fouling the rear of the mirror. Remember this was a trial today to see how it fitted and how it looked. The velcro allows me to do this.

Edited. I cut another piece of velcro for the windscreen part and did as you suggested and moved it to 4mm from the side of the mirror and about 6mm from the roof lining. Looks good and is hidden a little more. The live pictures looked good when driving in the dark. No problem with the dark bits around the rear view mirror boss. I am sure this is because the camera sits further back from the windscreen.

I did look at completely hiding the camera behind the mirror, but to do that it has to be dropped down too low and would have been too easy to see.

Here we go again with some more pictures. I managed to get the Ddpai M6 Plus into what I think is the best position directly between the back of the rear view mirror and the windscreen and where it is possible to adjust the vertical and horizontal planes if needed. It is now completely hidden. I can pull the camera down off the magnetic mount to hide it in the glove box if I need to. Also this is now my preferred way to remove the memory card, although I did find that I could move the rear view mirror sufficiently to remove the card.

You will note I managed to hide the power supply lead inside the rear view mirror plastic cover.

You can hardly see the camera from outside the car. The red ring around the camera lens is the only give away, and it lines up horizontally with the camera that is used by the Adaptive Headlight system.

The camera arrived today. quick test with some velcro until i can determine the best location for it (much like Peter_R did)
first impressions are very good - paired it to my iphone and android phones without issue.
I got very little reflection back from the dash etc, but i guess that because the X3 is a tall vehicle and the dashcam is pointing down slightly. This shot is a freeze frame, and shows the registration plate of the truck, even with the sun shining straight at me.
I left it in the car , to see how long the cigar lighter stays powered and it acheived 10 mins.

will try and play some more tommorow and get the wiring hidden all the way to the boot cigar socket, as my plan is to either buy a 20000mAh power bank or Cellink B battery pack in due course

Yes similar results as mine. Which resolution are you using?

I have set the camera settings on 1440p with with 16:9 resolution.

I'm also using 1440p with 16:9 resolution.
noticed the dab radio has some interference today in Slough area, not sure if that is the area having a weaker signal or the dashcam is causing interference.
I'm using temporary velcro at the moment to determine the best position for it, with the wire running up along the drivers side top edge and along the roof lining to the boot cigar socket.
had a quick search online for "dab/gps interefence" and some folks suggest running the wire in the opposite direction or fitting some ferrite supressors to the wire

Ok. I am running mine with a USB extension lead under the passenger seat and up the side and using the cigarette lighter inside the armrest.

With regards to the dab drop out. It was a long story so will not go into it here, but I was looking at another front and rear camera combination more than a year ago, but when I spoke to an installer who was recommended to me, he said the aerial in the back window was interfered with by the second (rear camera). It did not happen to all BMWs and advised if I went the route with that company's cameras, was to test the installation by just laying cables loosely to the back. If the dab was affected then return the kit for refund because there was no solution.

You could try the Mobius you had as a front cam, for the rear?

Yes but there is no app to configure it. All configuration changes have to be done through an executable on a laptop coupled up to it in the car. A real pain the backside. Naturally you have to take the memory card out of it to view the files.

My annual mileage is insufficient to worry too much about a rear camera. I might fit it (mobius), I might not.

So I ran the dashcam from a fully charged 6700mAh power bank. It's not connected to the car battery in anyway. Achieved 5 hours and counting (I keep connecting to it via the wifi app on my iPhone to see if it's still working)

Edit: a 10000mAh+ power bank will be able to sustain this dashcam for well over 10 hours at this rate. There are power banks at 20000 now available for £30 approx.
Much much cheaper than looking for a Cellink battery B type solution

The DAB interference has been the saga of the day.
By routing the cable along the left (passenger) side, the radio works, BUT running the cable up between the drinks holders to the front cigar lighter causes varying levels of interference. The dashcam is in a very similar position to yours Peter. Tomorrow I will route the cable ( with a 3M USB A male to A female) to the trunk/boot cigar socket.
Getting there SLOWLY ....

I have carried out extensive testing of my DAB. Working perfectly.
