that's quite honest of the dealer?!? maybe i'm skeptical but would all dealers do that?

out of curiousity, what's the general cost of replacing the rear pads? did my service yesterday and it looks like brake pads are up next in 5000 miles..done 13k so far... don't think it's covered in my service pack?

My rears say 25,000 and fronts 40,000 so with 13,000 covered so far the rears should do 38,000 and fronts 53,000, miles not km!

Don't use the brakes much, they slow you down!

The faster you drive the faster the rear brakes wear! They are used for stability control. Just changed mine at 20k mls. The fronts seem to be good for 34k mls currently.

really need to learn to slow down then... as well as the rear brakes being due around 20k miles, seemed to have picked up quite a few stonechips on the front as well

Well don't you think that counter will never go down. Would it be an error within the X3 computer. Cause I am thinking of going to the dealer to fix the counter since it has been stuck for more than 1k miles.

Is nobody else experiencing the service indicator stuck at a certain milage?

Last 10 000km, my fronts are stopped at 90 000km left and rears at 40 000km left.

Now 32 000km on the clock.

done close to 20k miles now and my rears have stuck at 800 miles left for the past 2k miles... starting to think it's highly inaccurate!

gotta eat humble pie now... the x3 was in for the winter tyre swap... got a call and expected to be asked if i wanted to get the brake pads changed (800 miles remaining per indicator) but was actually told that there was still 5mm on the pads which would be another 3 - 4k miles and wasn't worth changing now...

actually impressed by Coopers i must say...

my service adviser has told me that this is inaccurate especially on rear, they use the old fashioned method of measuring the thickness of the pads. Last time my X3 was in for routine work, they reset the computer for both front and rear to 10,000mi

I just had this exact issue checked on my 2013 X3 35i M sport. Rear brakes showed 4,000 km remaining and 11,000 km remaining on front brakes I have about 23,400 km on the odo. The dealer looked at it and said I had 8mm remaining on front and rear and reset the CBS. I now have 21,000 km of life showing on fronts and 28,000 km on rears.

My service has been showing due in 1200mls for the last few months.
When I was in for a separate warranty work last week, they say that the rear pads are indeed showing 1200mls to go and did I want them changed whilst the car was in, so saving time coming back.
When I told the girl that although I thought this was convenient, I would just wait for the count down to come down a bit further.
She also quoted £546 to change the rear brake pads
I left soon after

Amazing!!!
My friend has a F25 2.0 xd and he got the alarm at 28000 km. BMW Bavaria Constanta (Romania) just replaced pads, without any measurement! 275 eur cost involved. I am planning to buy LCI model.
Just FYI: I replaced my VW Golf 5 front brake pads 74000 km, and rear ones @ 105000 km!!!!!
I agree that Performance Control is consuming faster the pads, also your driving style is important in brake pads conservation!

Currently have 45,000 on my '11 X3.

Mileage has been showing 3100mi left for several miles now. They did a software update. It now shows 5,000 miles left. Fronts show 10,000mi left.

I apparently have 5mm of pad remaining. It has to be down to 3mm in order for them to replace the pads. Sounds like this will happen just past the 50,000mi warranty.

update when mine was reset to 10000 mi - it took almost exactly 5000 mi to work its way back to 1400 where it stays currently.
